Neil sailed through the golden period of rock and played with so many different bands but sadly never got the full recognition he deserved.

An amazing bass player and an integral part of the pre American Whitesnake sound. Beautiful melodic bass lines high in the mix, pure class!

Neil Murray is an exceptional bass player with a truly unique sound. He totally amalgameted his influences and added his own personality to create something new. His bass lines with Whitesnake in particular were fantastic. But what he did with Black Sabbath and others is still as inventive and exciting albeit in a different way. Neil changed my life as a listener and he actually triggered my obsession with bass guitar. The man is an unsung hero. So much more than just a rock/heavy metal bass player. A what a wonderful human being!

Met Neil Murray at a Holiday Inn in 1983. Whitesnake was opening for Quiet Riot and he was very nice and took the time to chat with some 14 and 15 year old kids... talked with us for a good five minutes. Quiet, soft spoken, cool dude.

He was the first bass player in heavy rock whose bass lines I was able to pick out so clearly, on early Whitesnake tracks like Fool For Your Loving, which was the first time I heard him in 1980. Like a heavy-sounding funk player and totally unique in that regard. A very exceptional and intelligent musician. He should be in a big rock band today.

I used to get Kerrang bi-weekly imported from England. And Neil Murray was always at a party with whoever was in town or around for a few years. But I am sure he did more than party. And playing w/Manny from Nazereth....that had to have produced some good bits.

Legend! His playing on Live in the Heart of the City is incredible. Jaco meets JPJ and a sprinkling of Andy Fraser for funkiness 😊

Agreed - Neil just has an amazing ear for picking up cool melody lines, so listening to his awesome bass is like listening to "a song within a song". I always end up mixing his bass high in the mix whenever he plays on our songs... adding a lot to the overall vibe. Keep on Rocking!
