Yall should be ashamed for rushing these talented people off the stage so you could play more advertisements. Games that weren't even nominees got to speak for 3-5 minutes but winners of awards got 30 seconds each. Shameful! Congrats to Neil! He deserves so much more than just this!

The Baeksang award in South Korea (basically, best actor / impersonification award out of all categories) give basically unlimited time to the winner to make a speech. The last year winner had a warm and honest speech for 6-7 mins. This was amazing. While this is insanely cool, I was mostly baffled that this wasn't more the norm everywhere else.

@mako3197
@mako3197 7 ай бұрын
Just gonna say it, Ben was better. BG3 is my personal GOTY as well but Ben had the bigger character that demanded a wider emotional range. He was in a different ballpark voicing Clive at different stages of life from 15 to 30. Not that Neil wasn't incredible (and factoring in mocap would be unfair because the rules on "performance" are unclear and not all VAs mocap), but I'm certain this win had a lot to do with Astarion and BG3's popularity. Compare the climactic Cazador scene to any of the emotional moments in FF16 (with Cid, Anabella, Joshua, Jill)...not to mention that Astarion had the most lines as a companion. Edit: I think people tend to mix up liking how a person's voice sounds vs the actual vocal performance. I'm not saying who is the better VA, rather who performed better in this one instance. If anything I'd be less disagreeable had Amelia Tyler won as narrator. Astarion's character was limited by the nature of the genre and the fact that he was an optional companion (vs being a relatively silent origin protag). I think most who say Neil deserved it haven't played any of the other nominated games. I really think TGA should add a best supporting performance, Astarion belongs there and frankly Ralph Ineson deserves some kind of recognition.
@ChainsawGutsFuck
@ChainsawGutsFuck 7 ай бұрын
@@mako3197 Both were great, but Astarion's more convincing as the smarmy vampire spawn hiding his weakness, forced to confront most of them depending on player choice and sounding convincing the entire time. BG3's character animations aren't as good, but the pieces are still in place to really sell it. Clive loses quite a bit of range outside desperate shouting, plain shouting, or gruff menace. Cool character, just when I really think about which character showed more, Astarion gets it every time.

I will never understand why people feel the need to denigrate a winner and insist their favorite is better. You'd rather bring hate than celebrate someone for their achievement. Why can't you appreciate someone for their talent, on a post about them, and enjoy their win and happiness? Then you can make a separate post about your favorite and celebrate all you enjoy about them. Neil is a fabulous actor, this role was exceedingly important to him. He put his heart and soul into it, because he's a survivor too. That passion and insight brought Astarion to life for many, and helped other survivors feel seen and heard. I am one such person who felt seen. If all you're coming here to do is comment how undeserved you think the award was, and how so and so is better, you're just as disrespectful and rude to Neil as the TGA were for giving him so little time, and trying to shoo him off the stage. I hope some day ya'll will realize how awful such hate posts are, and learn to be better people. Best wishes to you. I hope you're kinder in the future.

Agreed. This being said, you can critique something. What people are forgetting is that the winner here is picked by majority decision. Popularity of a game plays a huge part here. Until we get a “critics choice” award for gaming (we may already have that, I am unsure), the winners of these awards are typically gonna be based on hype, not some sort of objective analysis. Everyone did great, all these toxic fans really spoiled this event, not that it was very impressive anyway, they treated the talent like shit and took more opportunities to advertise games. Overall, a disappointing awards night.

He earned it. Give the man the space to speak. A solid minute would be the absolute minimum - life is short - we celebrate what is good far too little and we ought to give it room to breathe. I like good game trailers etc as part of the show - but don't forget why you exist.
