I remember a coworker in 1994 bringing in a box of CD's one night that he got thru a friend who worked for WEA. He let us all peruse thru the box and picked out what we liked. "Burning for Buddy Vol 1" was in the box and having heard about this project, I snatched it up. This was my first exposure to big band jazz at age 24. I couldn't get enough of the disc and I hoped that someday, somewhere there would be a concert with Neil and the BRBB. And then I find this video 29 years later.......❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Seeing Neil.with a stripped back kit just highlights how good he was. Awesome talent taken too soon under the cruelest of circumstances

Neal Peart's Wikipedia says he had prepared for this, but with a different arrangement--and Neal was therefore unhappy with his performance, so he later did some Buddy Rich tribute albums to apologize. That being said, I am still pretty awed by his performance.

For all the ignorant dip Sh*ts who think they can do any better,I challenge you to cover a Rush tune and see how you do. This is a beautiful performance by a great musician who is daring and humble enough to play a style of music he never played professionally. R..I.P Mr Peart!

Didnt he train with gruber later on in the 90s? I ask bcuz hes using traditional grip. Did it start earlier?

Yes he did but I don't know which came first, this or his Gruber lessons. I do know in Cottontail he does switch grips throughout the song.

Jesus this is sad, let's be honest people within 2 seconds of his hi hat intro its obvious that this guy is not a jazz player in any shape or form and has no feeling of what swing is. How did he get this gig. Buddy would roll over in his grave if he thought this was a homage to his greatness, Sorry Cathy the king is NOT wearing any clothes.
