Neil Theise - Does Brain Make Mind?

The mind consists of sensations, thoughts, cogitations, intentions, feelings. How could these inner mental capacities, these felt experiences, be produced by the three pounds of rubbery moist meat encased in our skulls? What must the brain do to generate the mind? Is it even possible for mental experiences to be produced by physical brains alone?

Took shrooms a few years ago and I during my trip I could taste colours like candy, see sound as strings of letters and background noise would merge into a symphony of music, colours and words. Eventually, it felt like my whole being merged into the world around me and I lost the concept of time and individuality. Felt like I was one with the universe. Lasted about 8 hours and I never got to experience it again.

WOW. I didn’t know that synesthesia extended to that kind of thing. Maybe people aren’t being “obtuse” or stupid when I try to talk about how I see the universe. 🤔😳 I never got good grades and almost flunked school a few times. I had a D- average in high school… because I can’t learn how other people do. I always create a felt/seen working 3-d whole. Like a giant mnemonic palace encompassing the entire universe. Eventually I did spend 4 years in graduate school Phd program at Emory university. I only got in because despite my abysmal grades and not studying I got 99%-ile on college exams… I completed a master’s project and did all the coursework basically incredulous and trying to see if I was possibly wrong… I left because I didn’t agree with their, or anyone’s, assumptions… My model WORKS. True story-I have a sticker on my car that is Sanskrit for “To Prepare a Mind that is at one with the universe”. I don’t learn or memorize-I make my mind work like the universe-I would sit spacing off integrating knowledge and running the simulations -pushing octopus arms of thought-engines arranged fractally/holographically into the gaps in my knowledge to create a working whole. Now I find that it works as an “idea engine” and I can solve problems very well, or offer insights in almost any area of human endeavor. Except there’s no job for that, so I am just finishing writing another book. Living in my car. 😂 renting an office. Lol. Long story…. I have this thing where I think of something as a means to some larger truth, and I mention it in passing, and people with PhDs hear me and launch careers or write books on these “stepping stones”… I also predicted the last 30 years of intellectual progress of humanity almost in detail. Sometimes when people are busy not listening to me, they do something “revolutionary” which I proposed years before in the exact form their research takes. It has taken my top 1% IQ and made it like a creation engine. But it’s also made me invisible and quite frustrated when people with Nobel Prizes run off down wrong paths which I clearly see will not be fruitful. Now I am starting to understand that they don’t even see or think like I do!! I cannot imagine any other way! I loved this video so much-so eye-opening. ❤️🙏🏻 THANK YOU!! Also, there is another way to verify if a theory is correct-or a hypothesis… it’s called “does it fit with what everything else is saying in all areas of human inquiry, and with the way the universe works?” I am always amazed at the hypotheses that leave so much out. I used to think people were milking the public research trough… so to speak. Because it was so ignorant of extremely important extraneous variables. Maybe I am just a symptom of “self domesticated” de-evolution in humanity? That would kinda suck so I don’t like to believe that. Plus now we have genetic technology so we can reverse any such trend: So right now I am re-writing the history of the universe and human civilization and adding in all the missing stuff that is messing us up so that we can have a future. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Unfortunately they are going to have to re-write a lot of textbooks and stuff. People missed some big stuff.

The brain as the difference maker, the differentiator, if consciousness is infinite. But then what is the mind? The part that separates us from the world and each other can not be the same part that communicates with each other through understanding the same world, can it? If the brain is the AM dial then is consciousness the button that can switch to FM or is mind the FM/AM button? Because getting "your wires crossed" in synesthesia implies your dial gets AM and FM: your brain is the source of synesthesia; but if the AM/FM button is switching back and forth then your mind is the source of synesthesia. On reconsideration it seems all I'm doing is reimposing finer states of differentiation and calling them brain and mind. I suppose then that as brain science has identified substructures in the brain such as the amygdala and hippocampus, so the people who study mind must further impose substructure there. Substructures other than the moral ones defined by Freud. Substructures of meaning, however that means. Musicians, painters, authors, engineers, chemists, biologists, mathematicians, pornographers..all the pursuers of popular and unpopular endeavors. Whether through the vanity of fame, fortune or logic the Eros of meaning inspires and consumes them all.

It just explains one of the thrillions or more mysteries of a brain processing information that is caught in a loop and continues repeating as long as no effective change modifies it. The brain registers in billions of a second informations even when we are sleeping, it never really rest. All our senses deliver soo much informations, most of us aren't aware of. Consciousness is the stuff made from picked up informations as a bridge for crossing the many flows of interpretations to be aware of.

Remember Occams Razor. Different radios can tune into same radio station. More than one person can not tune into same, external consciousness. Why assume or theorize more complicated explaination. Affecting (e.g. drug or anasthesia) the brain (tuner in the above theory) can change the conscious experiences of that brain. And it can be restored by removing that affect. A permanent change due to injury can make permanent effect on brain and consciousness. Consciousness is not a thing. It is a name given to some of the things brains do.

using the only knowledge we know so far, the only possible answer seems to be it must be from brain, and million neuron interactions that gives rise the emergence of subjective experience. the only missing, is the detail, or our capability to account all the parameters that happen in neuron interaction. BUT be careful with this narrative, this is same like before quantum theory happen that people believe the only thing physics leave over is the detail of microscopic world, if we know the detail, we will know everything. this attitude eventually becomes crumble in the eye of evidence that kept showing to destroy your basic classical physics (i.e quantum phenomena), scientist are speechless. now we have same problem with MIND, we THINK we know that the only left is the detail of neuron interaction, but the correct attitude is to open the question to the realm beyond materialism-science, so we do not follow same attitude as people who think physics is done in the last 19th century. this is important, since if you really think deeply that subjective experience that you we all experienced is EXTREMELY unique phenomena that is hardly to undersstand just simply using materialism-science.

@@mikel4879 What is this material you mention? And where is it? Is it not in your mind? Nothing you sense is what's actually there my friend. It's a story "in your mind" and where does that happen? Can the world fit inside your head? You've never experienced what you might call external reality. Your entire experience is internal. If this material pre existed mind then what was there before mind was there to interpret it? Quantum physics says without an observer what you call reality collapses into a wave function and expresses as a field of probability and what you call matter is nothing more than an interpretation of that probability.
@mikel4879
@mikel4879 2 жыл бұрын
Kyroz / The real material world exists independently of the interpretation given by any material brain structure. If you close your eyes and touch with your fingers everything around, that's part of the material world and exists without a material brain interpretation, in different material forms, from micro to macro scale in "one manifestation or another" ( = practically in many different and concrete material manifestations, real material aggregations, etc, etc; the neverending real chain of material "cause and effect" cannot be ever broken ). Before the biological material brain was "aware" as the one of a human "today", it had different material structures from simple sensing of environment to more and more evolved material structuring, analogous to what you see starting with bacteria, worms, flies, etc and finishing with humans, a process that represents a continuous material evolution structuring from very simple to a very complicated one of today. The material brain has material structures that permit sensing the material reality around it, recording, storing, retrieving, and "interpreting" the stimuli under its specific material proceses that have been evolving continuously for billions of years. It is just the local matter arranged itself in the local material entropic medium under a self-process of self-restructuring which is a part of a larger "local" temporary reversed entropic process; nothing supranatural, nothing woodoo and all simple, natural and dynamic! / Quantum theory is wrong. For example, science doesn't know what an electron is in reality, what the so-called "gravitation" is in reality, what is the phenomena that creates the magnetism in reality, what is etc, etc, etc in reality. All that science explains is in the form of scientific theories, many of them completely erroneous.

So you believe true reality is what you experience normally while your brain is running on tryptamines? Are you aware that a good portion of what you experience is "made up" by your brain and only informed by your senses? When information is fed into a computer screen via electric signal what is most real? The screen upon which the image is made visible, the image that appears on the screen interpreted from the signal, or the signal itself? A signal can be interpreted several ways. None of the interpretations or images derived from it are real they are conceptualizations of the signal which without a screen would have nothing to be viewed upon once conceptualized and yet would still exist beyond that conceptualization no?

for me, this is the weakest explanation of brain//mind---a friend says at orgasm, he feels his toes flying off---we all laughed---then i read:--the sensory in the brain of toes, is right next to the sexual organ sensories.

There are only the 5 sheaths. Mind is 1 sheath. Called as the mental body. Mind is not located in the brain any more than it is located in the thumb nail. If you could simply experience the mental body, you you would know this is true. Yoga is the way.

@@Sirach-pv5xv The brain exists but the mind does not. The mind is a concept only and so, no matter where anyone looks, they will never see it. If thoughts are in fact maintained by neurons in the coded form of discharge frequencies then the brain and the mind are a unity. Still, brain and the mind are distinguishable in this way... The brain materially 'exists' whereas the mind is the brain's behavior which is immaterial best characterized by the term 'being'. See?

Complete nonsense. This belongs in a Deepak conference not here. It's obvious that people like Neil and the woman he spoke of just want to feel special and have some super power. There might be some who do have the ability to see colors where there are none. but I bet this is a very rare condition. And the part where the woman said she can "sense" other Synesthesiacs was just a dressed up form of "I can see your "Aura" . Something popular in the 80's.
