Japan has excelled in music. Part of the reason is that music education is mandatory from age 5 to age 15. Those that like it and are good at it can pursue music ed. in college. The result is an entire country filled with people that are well-trained and talented. WE are the better for it.

As you dive deeper into the female Japanese metal scene, you will discover that many of them trace their roots back to a band called Destrose. They weren't terribly successful on their own, but when they split up or had lineup changes, many of those former members went on to form some of the most successful female Japanese bands today. Former Destrose members Haruna and Miho went on to form Lovebites, who I believe you've already checked out. Former Destrose member Saki went on to help create Nemophila (in this video, she's the guitarist on the far-right when they're lined up doing their comical chanting and head-bobbing, and the second soloist in the lead break). Three other former Destrose members went on to create a band called Disqualia, one of whose non-Destrose members was Hazuki, now the other guitarist in Nemophila (the guitarist on the far left in the chanting line-up, and the first soloist during the lead break)! Yet another female Japanese band you might enjoy, also born from the ashes of Destrose, is Fate Gear, who employ a mix of English and Japanese, and mainly clean vocals but with some screams, like Nemophila. They are more in the power metal and traditional metal vein, with a steampunk/pirate vibe.

Thank you for your attention to NEMOPHILA, which I love. NEMOPHILA is a new band formed in 2019, but we are a super band of artists with different skills. Especially Tam Murata on drums, Saki on guitar, and Hazuki, also on guitar, are experienced and top class players in Japan. The youngest members, bassist Haraguchi and vocalist Mayu, are also young but top class. I look forward to more reactions from NEMO in the future.

I can’t really add anything about how great Nemophila is so I’ll suggest other bands you should check out: Bridear, Gacharic Spin, Lovebites, Hagane, Hanabie, Fate Gear, Band Maid, Lonsome Blue, Trident, Broken By The Scream. Just a short list, there are plenty more.

This group is great. There are soo many Japanese metal bands that'll blow your socks off. Hanabie is one to check out for sure with We love sweets

Part of the reason you're seeing a large number of female dominated bands come out of Japan is due how their schooling system works. Most students join after school clubs, with males heavily leaning toward sports, and females heavily leaning toward the arts. Since you can only join one club, and rarely switch year over year, it's mostly Japanese women that spend their formative years in music clubs. Nemophila has done a cover of Babymetal's Megitsune, and SAKI is a huge Babymetal fan. You really can't go wrong with Nemophila's originals, and their covers are great too! Love these ladies, and looking forward to watching more of your reactions to them.

I discovered Nemophila after stumbling across their amazing cover of BABYMETAL's "Megitsune" (they are fans of BABYMETAL) and I have been a big fan ever since then! I love it when they all headbang at the same time during their live performances....so much hair!

This song is anti-establishment in the true rock tradition, some of the J-Metal bands are pretty hot on social commentary and observation - just another thing to like really.

This is the only song were Nemophila is this angry. And to be clear - I have no idea what angered them. Maybe they just wanted to write an angry song.

First, it's great that when you read the band's name, you noticed that there is no I after the L. Only very few people notice this detail. 🤭 The revolution is closer than you think, and if you ask me, already in full swing. In terms of creativity and the will to fully utilize the talent of each individual as a collective, these Japanese bands make almost every Western band look so damn bad imo. I'm really looking forward to your upcoming videos about these outstanding ladies. Dissension is a song with 'shock effect' thanks to Mayu's voice, but don't think every song is that extreme. These ladies have only been making music together since 2019 and from my point of view, their younger songs in particular show that they needed a little time to find their groove together. Don't get me wrong, also their first songs like 'Oiran' or 'Raitei' are absolute bangers, but the songs from this year like 'Adabana' or their latest work 'Seize the Fate' seem much more grown up/mature at least to me.... AND, since you mention the name Babymetal, I feel obligated to point out that they are also pretty good at doing covers of others. Want proof? Then check out their cover of Babymetal's 'Megitsune'. At the same time, you will see that the fun these ladies have together is highly contagious. So, now I've written half a novel and I haven't even mentioned that there is one band that for me still towers above Nemophila. These ladies are serious about there metal and the cream of the crop coming through the last few years out of Japan .Skill and charisma are off the charts +there realy funny . Just go and have a look at there YT channel to see more bangers they never miss.

It will be a little while before they tour Europe. After performing with Nemophila at Aftershock festival in the USA in October, lead singer Mayu is taking maternity leave until January 2023, when the group starts a tour of Zepp venues in Japan. In the interim, the four musicians (guitarists Hazuki & Saki, bassist Haraguchi-san and drummer Tamu) will perform an instrumental set without Mayu on December 5th, 2022 in Tokyo. They'll be back in North America in March of 2023 with shows in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin and Mexico City. Their new album is due out on December 14th, 2022. I'm sure they are planning a European tour at some point though.

The lead guitarist Saki is one of the best female guitarists of Japan, she is also in the heavy metal band Mary's Blood! She also plays in the duo project Amahiru with Frederic Leclercq (Ex-Dragon Force) Saki was also in the legendary female band Destrose with Miho and Haruna from Lovebites.

I love Nemohila. Babymetal, Nemophila and Livebites. Saki, one of the guitarists here, said recently in an interview that Babymetal is at a different level than all the other metal bands; I think they respect them and the crown s safe.

Gosh! I wonder why Japanese women have so much pent up anger? Could in be that because well into the fourth quarter of the 20th century Japanese women were expected to be modest, subservient, submissive, obedient, and compliant? To stay at home as housewives and not participate in public life in anyway? That all those smiling polite housewives I met in 1980s Japan were secretly angry inside? Could probably, possibly, maybe, be that.
