I am from Canada and I fell in love with Nena's voice and this song when I was a young teenager. Song reminds me of so many great times and memories. The English lyrics different but it didn't matter when that red balloon blew up and away in the sky. I wish I could get those days back.

I think she's more beautiful now than she was in the 70s. I don't know what it is about the song, which became popular when I was in the US Army stationed in Frankfurt AM, but it has always made me tearful. Perhaps, it's the fear we all had back then or perhaps it's the innocence of wishing it would stop.. I can't be sure but I still feel it at 69, all these years later.

This is a blast from the past but much better in German. She was attractive in 1983 but even more awsome now. Still has a great voice and stage presence. Her twin daughters Sakias and Larissa are on stage as back-up vocals and son Simeon is on the keyboard.

This was beautiful! I've loved this song since I was a boy. Short story, I went out to a Karaoke bar in Tokyo in 2003 with a few geusts from Sweden one night and we chose 99 Luftballons. I only knew it in english and they only knew it in German. I learned how to sing in German that night.
