Hi all, thanks for tuning into another episode of neon kev, where we are tackling a repair on a high performance microwave signal generator, the E8257C. This unit has a number of self test errors that we will diagnose alongside the service manual and eventually effect successful repairs.

Thanks for tuning in Illya! They do have a huge and mixed inventory; I can see some boxes slipping through the cracks if needing service before resale. Hopefully they were able to make it right.

Good job Sir ... Very Professional diagnostic process , I admire ... But since it ended with calibration issue then I would not recommend you do replacement for the parts on ALC board , it could be also a CAL issue rather faulty chips ...

Thank you. Yes, this could have been a possibility, I suppose we will never know. I was inclined to believe the unit had a hardware problem since it had been set aside as such.

Disappointing that the errors didn’t give some distinction between hardware problems and cal problems, but great repair nonetheless!

Yeah it would be nice if the missing/erronious calibration memory threw a distinct error, instead of generating a random hardware error. Thanks for watching!

Hoarder warehouse..! 0:15 (many tens of thousands of units.) Are they trying to coner the market on second hand labgear. a shame that all that second hand units aint out amongst the hobbybased markets, and help create an incentive for hobbybased engineers.

In all fairness, most of this equipment isn't that old (< 20 years) and is still worth a lot to legitimate businesses. It is notably less expensive than buying new. The target market isn't the average hobbyist; a reality for brand name, high performance equipment. Most hobbyists don't have a use for a 40GHz+ sampling oscilloscope with a maximum input of 5 volts into 50 ohms...
