Nepenthes at Hortus botanicus Leiden (English subtitles)

The botanical gardens of Leiden are home to many exotic and rare plants. Among these are the carnivorous Nepenthes or Pitcher plants which form one of our key collections. But why do we grow them and do all of them really eat animals?

Hortus botanicus Leiden is the eldest botanical garden in The Netherlands dating back to 1590. Over the centuries the majority of the collections have come from South-East and East Asia. It’s mission is to manage a living plant collection for research, education and public interest.

Leuke en leerzame video Heb zelf 7 nepenthes en vind het geweldige planten mijn ventratas zijn nu bijna 1 meter 20 En een kleine vraag kruisingen tussen nepenthes ampullaria Zijn die dan ook vegetarisch Ik vraag dit omdat in een nepenthes bloody mary heb maar hij maakt geen nectar ( kruising tussen N ampullaria× N ventricosa)

Jazeker. Een van de meest bekende is Nepenthes x hookeriana (N. rafflesiana is de andere ouder). Deze in de natuur voorkomende kruising wordt soms zelfs als kamerplant aangeboden. maar N. ampullaria kruist met diverse andere soorten in de natuur en sommige van die kruisingen hebben een identiteitscrisis omdat ze een vegetarische en een vleesetende ouder hebben. De beker is dan gemaakt om het ene te vangen maar om het andere te verteren.

Hortus botanicus Leiden Oke dus dat verklaard veel want als ik in mijn N bloody mary een vlieg gooi dan word de beker heel erg oranje dus wie weet komt dat door de kruising 🤔
