The talking through technique is great. I almost clocked myself with a club the other day because I zoned out. I remembered, not a good idea. So I’ll will humbly talk trough it and use a light kettlebell. I have No business handling the heavier kbs.

I find myself talking through the movements also to maintain form. I like doing a complex consisting of a one-arm swing, clean, snatch, clean to squat, clean to squat press. Then I switch arms and repeat the process. I also say the words "down" and "up" when performing the movements.

Firstly, I hurt in my knees to gut with the don't clock a knee. Secondly, this would also be good idea for travel and don't need to bring as many kettlebells.

the tips on thumb point forward for outside and thumb point back are so useful. Small details like these helped us to figure out easily. Thanks Wildman. I never miss a video of yours and I have written down all the titles of your video in my KB training notebook and train new tricks weekly. Writting them down allows me to track what I have done and what have not as those done will get crossed out.

Just did it!!! But with two 5 minutes section with 1 minute rest in between. So much fun. Some notes: Clocking the calf on both outside and crossbody upward movement is possible!!! More of a tap though rather than a clock though. Totally survivable! Beware of pets!!! I almost clocked my idiot cat on the head. They have nine lives but the idiot has already spent some... As I was getting tired it seemed simpler to do outside, normal, crossbody rather than as instructed. Food for thought... Using the brain during the workout with a complex movement or simplifying it to protect idiot self during the last, hard couple of minutes of hard and complex workout?

@markwildman question mark, in the testris Of training, during the 10 mins of kB swings, would you recommend picking one exercise for the entirety of the 10 minutes or switch it up throughout (alternating, signal arm, outside etc)

Speaking of nerd math - there is an excellent forum on how to calculate the force and resultant work from a kettlebell swing, snatch, clean, etc on the Livestrong chat forum. But nowhere does anyone translate for total reps and sets, so one can consider programming relative to traditional barbell and dumbell work. How does one decide how many swings of an exercise is enough load, relative to classic 5x5 or other weight protocols? Is there a protocol translation Mark, or at least a guideline you can suggest to prevent overtraining but also progress? Is 10 sets of 5 each side of this combo clean too much work?

Thanks for the combo idea! Any way to incorporate a heart rate monitor into this ? What would the target zone be (e.g. if I get there by minute 5 I should use a lower weight) ?

Chech Greg doucette regarding heart rate monitors. In my opinion it's better to focus on training and not to focus on the heart rate;)

put it on your ankle and see if it will read. im using a garmin instinct and it very rarely is capable or tracking the heart rate change of kettlebelling. it certainly won't read without a sweaty warmup. this series is pretty slow so its a bit better. i got it to track on this series this morning. but i did a 12 min 90 lb ruck walk before hand to bet the sweat up. most monitors don't read without sweat.

heart rate variabilty is crazy with kettlebells. most monitors won't read it. just like most won't read crossfit intervals either. you can do zone training but most peoples hands give out before they hit their times. monitors also lag behind quite a bit. so you would have to do a steady state warmup of some type before kettlebell training to get it to read.
@CharitonIosifides3 жыл бұрын
The best way (by far) to find your HR zones is to do a VO2 max test at a sports testing facility. It used to be difficult to access one but now anyone can get one. Second best is to use a watch with HR monitoring capability or (even better) a chest HR monitor and let an app give you it’s best guess. For sure doing cleans with a watch is a pain in the ass. I move it close to my elbow now. Seems to work better on the inside.
