As someone who has chickens and hollows out their own eggs: def never twist with an exacto. 🤣 Chip away with a nail or pointed screw, buy a blower, or make a hole big enough to fit a thin straw in and then blow in with the straw GENTLY over your bowl. Then submerge in water to fill, repeat to flush rinse water, repeat till it feels like you’re done rinsing, and then set hole side down to dry or settle hole side down in a pan of clean sand and bake in a 200* (warm) oven for about 30 minutes. If you have a dremel, you can even CARVE your resin egg! Carve the shell to reveal the resin underneath & place on a led lamp base!

We blew out eggs when I was a kid (my Mom's very crafty and wanted us to make faberge/easter eggs) and we just used a large needle to drill a hole into the top and bottom of the egg and blew it out over a bowl. Hurt my cheeks because the holes were so small but it worked and the hole wasn't obvious once it was decorated.

@@emilypresleysee I was wondering if it would help to shake the eggs really fast before putting the holes in? My aunt used to make faberge eggs too for Easter but I never had the chance to make them myself.

@@emilypresleysee My friend's family used to use that same technique; every once in a while they'd find some wild song bird in their shed or barn that they would have to force out and they'd make a decoration out of the eggs. They had a lovely recreated robin's nest they put on a shelf with some family portraits.

So here is a tip on how to clean out the egg a bit easier Step1, let the egg get to room temperature to make things easier. Step 2, shake the egg like your life depends on it and make a small hole with a needle in the pointy end of the egg. Step 3, make hole in the other side of the egg that is a little bit bigger than the first hole. Step 4, pers your lips against the small hole at the pointy end of the egg and blow and that should make inside of the egg come out of the bigger hole and the leave the eggshell intact ^^

You can't just resin food lol, like there is actually a horror story from the lolita community where there was someone selling cute 'realistic' lolita food charms and accessories. Spoiler alert, it wasn't clay or solid resin pieces, it was food covered in resin. So you had stories of people complaining that their charms were crumbling, discoloring, rotting, one person even received their package with ants in it, eating the accessory. just don't resin food, it is not worth it.
@Aw_tig
@Aw_tig 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I was wondering about this because I believe you can only use dried flowers or they will still turn brown and horrible inside the resin, so food is highly likely to go bad. Tho maybe the chip would be ok for quite a while because it’s very thin and salt does help preserve things, tho I’m really not sure. I think it would be much more fun to create a realistic model of a food item and then seal it inside the resin, I wonder if you can submerge baked polymer clay models in resin 🤔

Don't put any type of food in resin. It's traps in the moisture, and that causes it to rot from the inside out. It makes it really moldy as well. There's this channel on KZfaq called Even and Kaitlyn and they didn't experiment with a pumpkin, where they put it in resin, and it did not end well. I highly recommend that video if you want to find out what happens if you put food in resin.

@Annie_Annie__ 3 жыл бұрын
@@tsukipuppy The McD’s stuff tends to work because as long as there’s no tomatoes or lettuce on the burger, McDs food has almost no moisture. This is by design because it helps keep the food preserved so they can ship the buns and frozen meat and such all over the place and store it as long as possible. Technically you can order a plain burger and fries and as long as you keep it covered and in a low humidity area, it’ll look fine for years. It’ll just be very hard and dry. But foods with moisture in them, like fruits or vegetables do not do well in resin unless they’ve been properly dried. So, chips/crisps might do okay is they’re fully covered, but I’ve seen 5-Minute Crafts videos where they use fresh cucumbers and tomatoes and those will NOT do well long-term. Likewise, there’s a reason people use dried flowers, not fresh ones from their garden. Moisture and resin just don’t mix.

Back in the 70s when i was about 10, i had a set called Plasticraft, which seems to have been some kind of resin, you mixed liquids together and had decorations which you put into molds with the resin to make jewelry and stuff, I really enjoyed playing with it.

This is the first video I've seen of yours. It came up in my recommended. I've never used resin before because I honestly didnt know it was a thing. I'm more of a yarn crafter. I'm looking to learn a new craft to make a memorial gift. My Nana lost her husband, Papa. His funeral was today. The egg in the thumbnail is so pretty and I think I want to learn to craft with resin so I can make something beautiful. I'll for sure be watching more of your videos so I can learn this craft with you and once I'm feeling comfortable about how to start I'll order some supplies. Thank you for sharing your talent

Okay, now I have to try the egg thing! I've been doing resin since 2012 and have never tried it in an egg shell. I think waiting between layers might be good, though would require working in small batches at a time so they don't mix too much. So it'd be rather time consuming, but it's pretty so I think worth a shot!

I wouldn’t keep any resin project that didn’t fully cure inside. Eventually it will rupture. I had some dice I couldn’t tell hadn’t fully cured and eventually it destabilized from the inside and just formed cracks where the uncured resin just oozed out. Even “keep it away from your pets.” Is not good advice. If you can’t get it fully cured I would throw it away.
@SilverScaleMA
@SilverScaleMA 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, usually happens when you get the wrong kind of epoxy resin as some are used for casting and others for coating. If you use epoxy resin made for coating in a mold any thicker than say, 1/4 inch, it will never cure in the middle. Even most casting epoxy resin has a thickness limit.

About the egg, the easier way to empty them is to make a tiny hole on both ends with a needle and blow the content out by blowing the content out. You'd look funny while doing it but it sure does the job well! Of course you'd have to block the bottom before you fill it up. The result looks great!
