I don’t really get what you mean by Mae flip flopping cause she’s not when Mae leaves qimir for osha last episode she’s very clearly confident that the her master won’t be able to get her that’s why she’s turning her self in so she can be with her sister but then she finds out her master is in fact there on the planet and is in close proximity she becomes absolutely terrified and it’s very clear that whatever plan she had goes out the window and she’s now just trying to get away to not get killed by any means possible because her master knows she betrayed him. He knows and will kill her for it we saw that last ep where he tries to kill her multiple times so her leaving with Sol is very obviously a “let me get the fuck out of here otherwise I’m fucking dead” she’s got a high self preservation need also I have a feeling that she doesn’t expect qimir to kill osha just her so that’s probably why she left her there on top of that

Several leaps of faith in your position (ex: assumes Quimir won’t kill Osha). Defense of this plot is due to assumptions and not what has been shown. Better shows do a more effective job of motivations and development. Sorry, this is pretty sloppy. There’s quite a few of us Star Wars lovers who want success that are bummed by the show’s flaws.

Yeah, Mae's feelings and motivations are spot on. Qimir even points out he thought there would be more to Mae than anger over losing her family driving some revenge, but the moment Mae learns she still had family left the overwhelming need for revenge was supplanted by the chance to be with family if she turns herself in for her crimes. That all went out the window when impending doom seemed likely. Her sister kind of has been this wet blanket ever since reuniting, so most siblings would lose their cool and just knock someone out by that point in time. She didn't kill her sister, which tells that she still cared enough that wasn't even a thought, but it was either stay and die or flee and survive.

For some reason, I have a feeling that the Darkside character is a reference to the Padawan killing prophecy from Legends, where a bunch of Jedi had a premonition that one of their padawans was going to fall to the Darkside and kill all of them, so they decided to kill their padawans first, but they screwed it up. One survived fell due to the betrayal and came back and killed them all.

Yes it's a prophecy that other Jedi(s) would misinterpret for many millenias. One point in history Zayne Carrick a framed padawan went on to become a hero along with his companions when they brought to justice a hidden roque corrupted Dark Jedi(s)

See the problem with legend and all the other stories that weren’t the movies, causes a lot of issues with the lore itself. Thats why I’ve always just stuck to the lore the OG trilogy and prequel trilogy established. Now that Disney is taking bits and pieces from other stories, it creates plot holes. It has Disney trying to figure out a way to incorporate them into the movies canon without messing up which causes them to create more problems in the lore. Disney really should have just added to the lore in the sequel trilogy without involving the skywalkers so that they could add more to the story without messing with the established movie canon.

It's always those quiet ones that end up blowing up the most. Like, I always think, don't mess with the quiet people because when we blow up, we really blow up. I've probably only lost my cool a few times in life but when I have, I've insulted several people enough to make them cry. I felt horrible about it afterwards but us quiet ones do run out of buttons to push. We usually blow that steam with some private activity that doesn't need people, jogging, or punching bags or something. Helps us stay quiet, I think. Also, oh jeepers, bringing up Wheel Of Time Season one, as a book fan I'm having a hard time motivating myself to watch season 2 still. Their adaptation of season One gave me such a hard time, great acting mind you but the way they approached that, nightmares. Just to answer two points that would require you to either buy Legends Books or Comics to read. Answer is yes, there is totally one really prominent Skywalker in Legends that spends some time being trained as a Sith who has a romantic dalliance with their Sith Master. And also yeah, there are several species that are longer lived than Human beings in Legends and I believe a few in Canon. Canon even introduced some crazy Lovecraftian stuff with that Darth Maul comic they did not long ago. Basically, Star Wars just has weird stuff. Yeah, I think I'd have liked this episode more if like, we had two more episodes in this season to properly flesh out a satisfying conclusion. So, I totally agree with you guys on how the episode feels, which is weird because I kind of really liked the acting of the main cast too. I'm pretty sure the stuff about hyperspace nausea was done to offer her a broader acting range. But who knows, maybe they show her losing her lunch in a future episode. Anyways, great reaction!

Misdirect and confusion... first lesson, "The Nekkid Man" is effective at paralyzing your foes. Come to the dark side Osha, we have mixed bathing, and soup... (Way to mishandle someone's... lightsaber) A fallen/dark Jedi who has Sith-curious tendencies is a fair play... perhaps he aspires to try for a Ro2 position and is building his personal bench of student options. No, whips don't doodle like a Zorro sword tip scribble. Not unless Qimir and Vernestra were into hot wax/plasma tickle play. Cortosis is more rare than Beskar, and has fewer reliable applications. The shape of the helmet is what is replicating the sensory deprivation helmets of the younglings at the temple or Luke in episode 4 or Sabine. The material has nothing to do with it. Qimir is baldfaced lying to Sol about the mask "blocking the force", since he wasn't wearing it in the Apothecary and could not be read. Cortosis does NOT block The Force. That is a Red Herring. Classic misdirect. The greater sins of this episode are the editor's fault with a complete disregard of time, Space, distance and travel. It would have been better for them to open with Sol and Mae, As we saw them entering their ship in the last episode... Instead we have Qmir Mystically teleporting across the Galaxy to an unknown world, Having carried Osha to his ship taking off undetected, jumped to hyperspace landed on the unknown planet transported her across the bay at low tide into the cave lair and treated Osha' wound, and Osha waking up at High tide... Before the other ship even takes off. Bad, bad edit. To say nothing of the travel time from Coruscant to the outer rim for the Jedi CSI investigation team.... and they got notified at night on Coruscant, and didn't leave till day again on Coruscant. And, If there were still active umbramoths, Simply for the plot convenience of showing off the whip. Why were there still bodies left to investigate? Even If they are pure vegetarians that only attack because of the light, Other forest creatures should be hard at work rendering the corpses by now. I put more faith in Basil's ability to tell Sol about Mae's Infiltration than I do in his ability to clearly sense things in the Force... Although telling the mission commander first would have been a wiser tactical decision than trying to dry hump the leg of a known assassin... Tynnan logic be weird.

Qimir is about 10 years older than Mae and Osha. So he could’ve been leaving the Order at 18 just as Osha entered the Order at 8. I feel like I understand more about Mae than Osha, who feels like she’s just along for the ride while introducing us to other characters. Mae’s whole thing has been to either get revenge by killing the 4 Jedi that she holds as responsible for what happened 16 years ago, or to get justice by informing the Jedi Council of the crimes that those 4 Jedi did 16 years ago so that they can be arrested. And in episode 2, titled Revenge / Justice, we hear that from her when goes after Torbin, after failing to killing him or illicit a response. Mae: “Turn yourself over to the Jedi Council and confess your crimes, or, take this vial to find the absolution you seek.” And again in episode, where tired of being pestered by Qimir and trying to figure out how to get a Jedi to fight her and how to kill them with a weapon, she says; Mae: “This isn’t my test. I don’t need to kill a Jedi. I will just go to Master Kelnacca and turn myself over to the Jedi Council.” Qimir: “But, they will arrest you.” Mae: “Not after what I have to tell them.” And then in episode 5 where she decides to go with Master Sol, presumably back to Coruscant, where she hopes to tell the Jedi Council about what she understands to be the truth about what happened 16 years prior, so that they can arrest Sol. And Sol tells her that he will to confess to her what really happened from his perspective. But worried that Sol will eventually see through guise before they even get the ship repaired because she doesn’t have a clue to maintenance, so she briefly considered killing him. And then after realizing that Sol might have saw through it once the ship came back on line. She decided to send a communication to the Jedi on Coruscant before Sol kills her, because still in her mind, the Jedi kill without provocation and Sol is a mess right then.

Finally, someone says it. Thank you! Tired of people constantly attacking this show for the wrong reason. I've only had one problem with the Acolyte so far, and it's how the pacing feels a bit off sometimes... like, the twin moment at the end of the ep5 needed an extra minute to feel fleshed out. And this episode needed either an extra three minutes of Sith philosophy, or the start of the big reveal (cause it is getting tiresome). Basically the episodes needed to be a little longer. Other than that I get what they're doing and I like it. I think part of the problem people have with this show is that they don't like being remembered that the Jedi are sexually repressed fanatical priests who kidnapp and endoctrinate children... but that was always there. We know that since the prequels. Just makes me laugh when people say, "they're trying to make the jedi sound evil..." I mean, when those boxes get checked, they kind of are...

@@eduardoharpa8723 The episode runtimes are my biggest issue too. It’s like they cut the 3rd act and epilogue to save for the following episode, the following week. The runtimes are a problem with the other Star Wars live action shows too (except Andor). But with the way that the Acolyte was written, it does the show a disservice. Because when you are getting into the episode, it cuts, leaving you to have to remember what happened the previous week so that the narrative makes sense. However, the streaming age means that you can simply just binge through the previous episode/s to things straight in your mind.

The 'good guys' memory wipe droids all the time too though. I don't get all the claim 'this show wants to make the Jedi bad' arguments. That's bs. The Jedi have always been ABLE to be bad. Jedi can fall, they literally become bad guys all the time. If they couldn't the whole warning about the path to the dark side is meaningless and Anakin never would have become Vader. Obi-Wan literally lied to Luke about Anakin. Jedi actions literally created Grievous. Anakin, Dooku, and so many more. I don't know what movies and shows people are watching to think Jedi are always good.

Osha is too passive in this show, she doesn’t have an internal drive towards anything so she just gets pushed around by the plot. When you compare her to Cassian, he was a screw up who was floundering in his life but he was also determined to find his sister and take care of his foster mom. Whereas Osha wasn’t ever searching for Mae because she thought she was dead, she wasn’t striving to rejoin the Jedi order or even thinking of taking them down, she was just existing. And with the reveal that Mae was alive the one motivation she had was to capture and turn over Mae, not necessarily to find out what actually happened that night, which lessens the next episode’s big reveal.

This might have been my favorite episode of the series thus far. I know that we didn't get much plot progression or action, but Manny Jacinto's performance is just so captivating.

the emotional wreck that was Sol throughout the episode was also great to see. His slow progression back from the brink to only then realize it was Mae all along. Lee Jung-jae is killing it as Sol.

Beautiful Live Act Episode set into High Republic era. I hope that some day we get to see Hyperspace Disaster content in Live Act. Nihil species & more 😋 - Forever D+ Sub & so far quite a fan of The Acolyte. I dislike & like Star Wars Telly shows that have come out. - 🧘‍♂

Disney really needs to figure out series length and make episodes that are fulfilling to watch. 36 minute episodes with strange cutaways from important dialogue and long ass credits aren’t cutting it. Much of these episodes could be edited into four episodes which would leave the last four episodes to do more with.

Spot on. So many of Disney+ Star Wars shows running times would benefit from being cut in half.

A lot of the Disney shows, Marvel and Star Wars, feel like the story would make a good 90 minute movie, but to meet an 8 episode requirement they add hours of filler, film it as if it were a really long movie then chop it into episodes.

@EvilSoupDragon - Eternals should have been a show, but Falcon and Bucky could have been trimmed to a movie, for sure. This and Kenobi as well. That or go the Andor route of 12, and let things breathe more.

This show unfortunately doesnt know how to build mystery. They keep talking and mentioning the same mystery to a point where it gets more annoying than mysterious. They dont build up the mystery or revealing slowly but just keep repeating it just from different characters.

I agree with Clarus, this show lacks character development, which is why I also don't feel connected to any of the characters. I disagree with the persona of Qimir, I can't take him on seriously as a Sith, he is way less intimidating than Darth Sideous, Darth Vader, Darth Tarynas aka Count Dooku and even Darth Maul. Qimir is stoic and soft spoken and, in some ways, comedic, he is no true Sith in my book. Yes, I agree, every week, more questions than answers, less focus is on the story, each and every time.

He didn't exactly say he was a Sith. He said the Jedi might _call_ him a Sith, inasmuch as he is a former Jedi who has "fallen prey to the dark side."

The Bazzil character has been absolutely useless...there has been no point to having that character in the story at all. Pip has been irrelevant as well. Neither has been a "character," not even as much a B2-EMO. Clarus has noticed Qimir knowing things Qimir shouldn't be able to know. This show is like the couselor at a summer camp telling a ghost story, trying to stretch the story with as much fake mystery as possible. Mog reminds me of Dedra Meera's assistant. And Venestra is starting to remind me of Dedra Meera. I would like to imagine that the reason Osha is so bland and Mae is so psycho is because they're an incomplete whole that much be combined into a single person. But I don't think the writers are that clever, nor do I think they have enough time to resolve satisfactorily it that way. They've got us hope-watching.

Yep you guys are echoing many of the issues I have with this show, I like a lot about it but I'm lacking a reason to care as there doesn't seem to be a plot just the constant, I must tell you what happened 16 years ago but is stopped like 4-5 times so far and it's just annoying me at this point.

Osha/Mae aren’t really doing anything for me. They barely have personalities individually much less enough to make them distinct. As children they seemed to have more distinct personalities. Osha seemed to not really give a fuck about people she ostensibly considered friends if Qimir can just dismiss her bringing them up by effectively being like “yeah, they actually sucked and didn’t like you anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️”. I don’t care about *any* of these characters (sorry, even Sol)

Fantastic analysis as always, however I must down the video for the Osha violation reference, such puns lead to the Dark Side. One thing about this ep that makes me happy is George Lucas was vindicated in his assertion that there is no underwear in space.

Vernestra doesn't like hyperspace because it gives her visions. It's a reference to an important plot point in the books. On the other hand, her isolating herself on Coruscant is a very clear indication she has been VERY changed by the time she has lived in. At the end of phase 1 she had disobeyed the recall order to head off and become a way seaker (basically, a roving Jedi who follows the will of the force). Her becoming so political and isolating herself like this is weird, and begs explanation.

Mae's only motivation is to not get merc'd by Smilo Ren. In terms of the dialogue, you should watch it with closed captions. The descriptive audio sounds like a romance novel. Also, Pip had to die or it would upload information about what happened when the Jedi strike team got massacred back on Pill Bug Planet. Finally, stop being frustrated about them not revealing what happened on Brendock, that shit is a red herring. I don't even think the Mae/Osha storyline is actually important in any way, its just the connective tissue of the story, not really the story itself. Green Bald Lady been whipping Smilo Ren with that light-whip(?) when he was a kid.

So far the entire plotline up to this point could have fit into a single episode. This is the Seinfield of Star Wars, as it's becoming a "show about nothing." If your show is based on a mystery, you either need to show a discovery of evidence or a plot reveal in each episode. Everything in the episode becomes irrelevant without at least one of those events.

"I watched you murder my friends, and I won't be so easily corrupted!" "Yeah, well look at these abs, and check out my fat hog... Want to abandon all of your morals to be sad and evil with me?" "Good point. I will forgive you for snapping my childhood friends neck in front of me, because you're hot" This is the worst of CW writing. It's really, really bad. Performances by Sol and Qimir have been particularly excellent, and I feel bad for the actors because they're putting in so much more effort than the writers did.

This show kind of reminds me of the Obi-wan show…the stuff with Obi-wan and Leia was good, but the Reba and Inquisitor stuff was so bland and disappointing. The Osha/Mae pairing is supposed to be the centerpiece of the show but they are the least interesting part. No shade to the actor generally but they seem to have difficulty establishing each twin as an individual. If you look at Anna Torv in Fringe or Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black, it’s important to develop each person’s physicality, vocal tone, etc and it feels like the actor for Osha/Mae didn’t really do that work.
Beautiful gymnastics 😍☺️
