That was the plan years ago. It was quickly abandoned. OSRS has been heavily developed for years now.

Classic is, as the name implies, the classic/very first version of runescape. It had things like overworld pvp everywhere and some skills that didnt make it into later versions of the game. Oldschool runescape is the version that came when they upgraded the visuals (and pretty much the entire game) to "runescape 2" which is the version most people youll find online remember playing. Its called oldschool because when they updated the combat system of runescape 2, to what is now known as runescape 3, it pissed off an enormous amount of the players and made many straight up quit the game. The solution the devs came up with/players petitioned for was to make a seperate game using a snapshot of an old version prior to the combat update and it was called oldschool runescape.

@@hankhill6404 Ahh, ok. Thanks for the breakdown. I was vaguely familiar with the transition from oldschool to modern runscape, and how that drove a lot of players away. I wasn't aware of classic at all though. I did technically play a small amount of oldschool way back, but I never got sucked into it.

@@hankhill6404 Yeah I tried to go back after a break and found out my character I put years into was now attached to an inferior game. I tried the new one but it completely lost the charm of the old. Every time I tried to do something it just didn't work.

OSRS basically is a private server to be fair. It’s so far from the 07’ version.

Did you mean to type that backwards? Osrs had over 100k active in Feb 2024 while RS3 had below 20k. Its even higher now, i think i saw a post of os having 150k peak on weekends
