Oh no, it crashed in the end?! Like many games of the Era, it starts back at Stage 1 with a harder difficulty after you complete the first loop items kept if I recall correctly, much like Ghouls and Ghosts. I am SO HAPPY you reviewed this game. Thank you for giving it your attention!

This game's pretty fun! I totally agree about those ninjas though... they're so terrible! I've played through sometimes where you just don't get ninja stunners in high enough numbers to quell the onslaught and then it's game over forever :( I'm glad you made it through though!

Hi there Chairman Meow! One of my goals with this NES Abridged series was to sometimes talk about games I don't see discussed much! Have you ever heard of a game called Phantom Fighter? If not, I did a video on that one, too! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n81olqZ807mZlGg.html

I absolutely love late 80s early 90s fantasy anime. Like Record of Lodoss War, Phantasy Star etc. This looks entertaining. Never ever heard of it before. Think im gonna go grab it.

Oh man, I remember there used to be a Record of Lodoss War cartoon that would come on TV sometimes. I thought it was AWESOME!

Hell ya! I remember the first time I saw real anime. It woulda been 1988-1989, and I would have been around 9. I was sick with bronchitis so my parents built a big fire in the wood stove and had me sleep on the living room couch. It was like 3 am, and I felt like shit and couldnt sleep. The living room tv was the one with cable (oldschool cable with the box - woo 32 whole channels even!) so I was flipping thru channels. And on some weird random channel there was Vampire Hunter D. I just stared open mouthed, completely entranced. Blew my mind so much that memory is crystal clear 30 odd years later. It was so rare and hard to find real anime back in the 80s and early 90s. I vaguely knew what it was, since my aunt taught in Japan for half the year and would bring me Japanese kids toys and media (I actually played a real Famicom back then, my cousins had one). But this is the first time I had seen real adult anime dubbed in English. Fast forward and Im 16. My now-husband, then best friends dad owned a used book store. And someone sold the VHS box set of Record of Lodoss War to his dads store. His dad let us borrow and watch it. And I actually talked my parents into letting me take their vcr over to his house so we could make our own copies of the tapes before bringing them back to the store. They were like gold to us. We still have those tapes, lol. At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, the anime was just better when only the best stuff got exported. Nowadays its just super saturated. I also dont like the general style anymore. I prefer the 80s style where the faces werent so angular and stylized, and they didnt do that constant "emoji cutaway" (dont know the technical term) where all the sudden theres an image with extremely exaggerated art and emoticons. Anyway, rant over!

I've heard the name, but I've never actually seen gameplay before. This looks like a charming little post-Druaga early action RPG

I've always found this to be a good, quirky little game with some interesting visual design, and I also like the underground music; it reminds me of something you might hear in StarTropics 2. There isn't much out there like it, either; the only thing that comes close is the first Rolan's Curse on the Game Boy.

@MotherKojiro beat me to it. Visually Rolan's Curse all the way. Oddly enough, the game boy Rolan's Curse seems to have more detailed graphics than this game.

Huh... This is another one of those games that I remember always seeing at the rental store, but never actually trying. Considering what I do on my channel, you'd think I would have given it a shot by now, but here we are. Your review is making me want to go play it sooner rather than later, now, so thank you!

I chuckled when the pause screen confirms that, indeed, Christine is a female. It made me wonder if there were other playable characters.
