Unlike the SFC and SNES where all you need to do to play SFC games on the SNES is the pull out the plastic pins that prevent the cartridges from fitting in the slot.

quick reminder that the Famicom does not have its own seperate page on Wikipedia and instead is featured in a page about the NES I tried getting the two seperated a few months back and unfortunately was unsuccessful, hopefully that'll change in the next few years

the famicom may have a lot of aesthetical differences (name, cart shape, certain features) the famicom and nes are ultimately the same blood, running on the same base cpu, and ultimately the meat of the burger (games) will work with each other. the nes is simply a different version of the famicom sold outside japan and while they are different to a degree, to claim they are 100% separate is silly

@@ShermleyCollege most of the details on said Wikipedia page is history based, and it's written in the point of view of the NES with mentions of the Famicom hense why I requested getting them seperated they're actually seperate on Japanese Wikipedia and both of those pages have different details regarding their history

The one thing you forgot to mention was that FDS allowed for additional sound channels, gving a richer sound to songs not found on their more famous cartridge ports

Fact: originally the Famicom Disk System was going to be launch in USA. But it was Canceled due to Unknown reasons but most probably is due to the lowering pricing of the chips back then. Because remember the FDS was an alternative to the expensive Cartridge. Another argument is that Nintendo thought that games on disk won't be so durable because of the children careless behavior

I have never heard anyone confusing the Famicom and the Disk System. Is that a real problem? And I have only seen NES and Famicom used interchangeably when it's about ROMs.

For a long time, I assumed the Famicom Disk System was the Famicom’s full name. Like how the Super Nintendo’s full name is Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Would a NES Duck Hunt in a 60 to 72 pin adapter work with the NES Zapper on the Japanese Famicom, though? It might be that the FC Duck Hunt doesn't have Zapper support, not that the wiring is different (otherwise, how would the controllers work?)

It's possible that the Zapper is using a pin or two that aren't used for normal gameplay.

@@BrightSpark That's kind of where I'm coming from; the Japanese game might be expecting the 15-pin connector and doesn't have support for the NES Zapper specifically because it didn't exist when the game was made. The NES version only supports the NES Zapper because there's no 15-pin on the NES.

NES Duck Hunt with the NES Zapper should work on the Famicom. The problem demonstrated in this video is that - regardless of what system you use - Famicom Duck Hunt won't work with the NES Zapper, because the Famicom version of the game is programmed to read input from the expansion port, not the controllers.

If you need a Famicom System in order to use the Famicom Disk System and play its games, then why is Super Mario Brothers available on the Famicom Disk System when it was already available on the Famicom?

cause Famicom disks were cheaper than cartridges, keep and mind Nintendo was banking on the Disk System being the future of the Famicom and you can see Nintendo's dedication to that in their releases from 1986-1987 but tl;dr, a bunch of issues led to Nintendo abandoning the Disk System and released future games on cartridge up until 1994 with their last release ironically being a cartridge version of Zelda no Densetsu on Disk System
