Every year, during Baisakh Purnima (Apr-May), a rare three day festival is observed in Ghunsa, a remote village in the far-eastern district Taplejung of Nepal. This festival is called Neso. Various reasons and modernization have severely endangered this ancient festival. It's highly likely that this festival may soon never be celebrated again. This is a documentation of that endangered festival.
We were fortunate enough to witness the festival we've heard a lot about during our earlier trips to the Kanchanjungas. A small conflict on the first day of the festival almost got it cancelled. But, luckily, it was sorted out. This festival has its uniqueness but also shares some similarity with festivals across the trans himalayan regions of Nepal.
We are immensely thankful to the family of Nupu and Tashi Tshering, all the locals of Ghunsa for this wonderful experience.
