I am confused about that too. Both seem the same except that in one, the message is split into multiple packets.
@pranavnyavanandi9710
@pranavnyavanandi9710 2 жыл бұрын
I think I got it. In circuit switching, the connection is established as long as the communication is taking place. In virtual circuit, a different circuit is established each time for each message that is to be sent and also, the message is split into packets. So, there is no fixed connection every time, but since every time, a circuit is anyway established a circuit is "virtually" present always. Thus "virtual" circuit switching.

According to my knowledge,the virtual circuit approach is explained wrong (it makes it look that connection-oriented and circuit swithcing are the same). The physical path between the machines can't be fixed (because IP a connectionless protocol handles it). The connection-oriented protocol helps the communicating process on both maching to feel that a connection is made by the use of acknowledgments and message ordering.
@henrykemakolam6828

Your explanation made it look as though connection oriented switching is the same as datagram technique
