Fusion 360 Arrange Nesting - Fusion added a new feature called Arrange which allows you to optimally nest parts. We’ll also go over Manufacturing Model that most have access to right now.

Thanks for the much needed tutorial, I just played around with it on a few different projects and I was quite impressed. If they can get things to nest like what you can do in VCarvePro, that would be amazing. I really like that you can create a whole new world in the manufacturing workspace and keep the stuff in the design workspace to a minimum.

Nice, thanks for the update, I saw your instagram post and shorter video. As always, great job. I especially liked the letter nesting around bounding boxes. I think that that will be very useful for someone plasma cutting sheets, esp. if you save the outline of your scrap then you could see if letters or other parts would fit on those sheets instead of guessing. does it handle multiple sheets?? Like nesting a whole kitchen? -Brian
@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah, it's very useful for "optimal nesting." It can't do multiple sheets, I'm not sure if that's in the works. My guess is that's one of the perks you'll only get with the upcoming Nesting Workspace.
@ravijavia8183

Regarding multi-sheet nesting, what Justin said is correct. I'd like to elaborate a bit on that. Arrange allows a single boundary selection for each feature. If you would like to Arrange parts on multiple sheets, you can achieve this by breaking up the object selection over multiple Arrange features. For example if you have a model with 20 objects that you know will fit on two sheets, you can create one Arrange feature with 10 objects (it relies on you to make the call as to which 10 are selected) on first sheet boundary and another Arrange feature with remaining 10 on the second sheet boundary. What it will not do is optimize for material efficiency across the 2 sheets since the sample size (objects selected) is determined by user. The more advanced nesting functionality (which is still in development) will support multi-sheet automatic nesting while also optimizing for cost - As you are aware, sheets come in different sizes and price tags and for that reason the highest material efficiency alone may not always be the most cost-effective result. Hope this helps.

ravijavia cool, I don’t do many jobs over a couple of sheets, but some do. When I do kitchens I base the cuts on strips either 12” or 24” so the nesting can be done in your head or on a piece of paper. Thank for insight, I’m pretty new in using the cam side so breaking models etc will take me some more learning.

Once you finish using arrange your finish editing the Mfg Model and then you can create a setup like you normally would in Mfg Workspace. In the Setup model selection you choose Mfg Model.

@@pdxcnc That did the trick! Funny, I created a projected sketch of the arranged parts, but it seems like you cannot export a .dxf while inside the Manufacturing Model. That's really unfortunate. Anyone find a workaround for that? I thought this would finally be the automated function I needed for nesting parts for laser-cutting. Sigh.
@pdxcnc
@pdxcnc 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexvicenzi298 You definitely can. I just tested it. It works the same as design space, you need to create a sketch to export a DXF.

@@pdxcnc AHHHH, you're right. So it looks like you need to be in the "Edit Manufacturing Model" mode in order to export to .dxf. Once you press "Finish Edit". the options disappear until you jump back into edit mode.

@@pdxcnc Sorry. Just frustrated. With Fusion 360, not you. I edited my comment. With this video being over a year old, I honestly thought not many people would read my comment, much less respond. I do plasma cutting and all I want to do is be able to nest my sketches/DXFs to a sheet. I don't need to create a body. I don't need to create a component. I'm not designing a Mars rover or trying to cure cancer. Just want to be able to nest DXFs. Simple 2D sketches. I may be missing something, but it would seem to me, if the Fusion team can put all those features into a nesting program (that they expect you to pay extra for on top of the subscription) they could incorporate a simple nesting program in there, somewhere. They expect and extra $100+ dollars a month for this, when I can go online and get a subscription that does exactly what I want for $60, but I'm already paying for Fusion and feel that a simple nesting feature should be in there. I've looked around quite a bit and keep hitting dead ends.
