Netatmo buitenmodule defect - demontage

Onze buitenmodule verliest de verbinding. Netatmo-support vertelde me om de batterij-connecties schoon te maken zonder gebruik te maken van een vloeistof. Dat hielp een paar maanden en toen ging ie toch weer offline. Ik wil een kijkje binnenin nemen en proberen om de contacten nog een keer grondig schoon te maken. Het leverde een kapot apparaat op. Om te voorkomen dat jou dit ook gebeurt, bekijk dan even deze video over hoe je de Netatmo buitenmodule uitelkaar moet halen.
Tip: je het een 5 m lange T9 torx bit nodig met een asdikte van maximaal 3,5 mm.

2mm flat head screw driver works fine to open it. No need for fancy torx bits

Thanks for this video. I took it apart as you suggested. I managed to fix mine by using a bit of wet and dry emery cloth to sand down the contact, worked a treat.

Many thanks for this video! I just fixed the problem with mine weathermodule by cleaning the corrosion carefully with a deoxide-metalpaste.

I have this problem. This was very useful guidance. I did not have a pencil with an eraser but just cut a slice off an eraser block and twisted that down the holes. They are now nice and shiny. Also, one of the holes at the base of the unit opens out to a cavity that is revealed when the outer cover is removed and I had to remove a spider with tweezers.

Thank you for the video. You saved me lot of time. I used torx T8H screwdriver and disassembly was done in a minute. Problem of my unit was water condensation on the bottom. It work couple of hours and then suddenly dissappeared and was not visible for the main station for several hours. Randomly appeared again. Replacement of batteries didn't help. So I had to dissassemble the unit and carefuly dry inside by hair dryer. Also, inside was some black dust I had to clean. Now OK.

Mine two sets survive 9years in the outdoor, but failed recently. without any shield, it is fairly long, but I would try to clean it with this video as a guidance. Thank you!

HI, on my module I needed a T8 , not a T9 to open it. PS. Thank You so much for this video. My module suddenly stopped connecting and I followed this guide and cleaned the contacts (I used nail varnish remover, no idea if that was a good idea or not), and I got the flashing lights when put the base back on :-)

I had leaky batteries that spoilt the board, cleaned thoroughly with fine steel wool and electronics cleaning spray. Started to work again.

A regular Torx screwdriver will work fine. The best way to clean contacts like this - without opening the case, by the way - is to use a pencil with a rubber eraser on the end. Dip the eraser side into the battery slot and use rotating / sweeping motion to "erase" corrosion away.

Thanks for the comment. The size of the torx-screwdriver you need is T9. Nice tip on how to erase the corrosion!

The spring inside the cap of the module was to wide to touch the tip of the positive pole of the battery. So I had to put some Aluminium foil between it.

Pity the battery connections are not remote and within a sealed assembly. Have had lots of issues in coastal locations with these external units in Ireland dropping out

Would you expect soldering a 3.7V 18650 battery to it is OK? The duracell AAA's I had in there would amount to about 3.4V max I guess. I'm mounting the board inside a Stevenson cage, and hope to feed the 18650 with solar. I probably also want to externalize or enlarge the antenna, do you know which frequency is used on it? I assume it's bluetooth or some LP band?

A fully charged 18650 batterycell holds more then 3.7V (up to 4.2V). I wouldn’t risk damaging it with an overload. You could add a regulator that levels the output to 3V with an input of 3.3-6V (DC-DC stepdown converter, $1 at AliExpress). I don’t know if it’s Bluetooth or another band.

@@zenmannl Thanks, that's actually a really handy tip, those stepdown converters are even better, since I already run 12V DC in this Stevenson cage. Wasn't aware they were priced at this level now.. I have not soldered stepped down electronics for about 20 years ;)

@@zenmannl it's 433 MHz radio, according to the specs. the length and shape of the antenna matches. i haven't done any radio sniffing to confirm it, though. great video btw!

I got problems after 2 years. The module is eating batteries and last for 1-2 months. Complained to netatmo and they only want to sell a new... I will test cleaning before i through it in waste. All their things especially mounting is not made for outside. French made in china...

So I recently stopped getting temp and humidity readings from my outdoor sensor. I still get barometric pressure. Any chance that cleaning it up would get it working again?

I really don’t know but when I took it apart the first time, a lot of bugs were inside. They can cause all kind of errors.

Also note that the barometric pressure comes from the inside unit, even though it is presented with the outside data. They are assumed to be equal (and I guess that for basically any house, that is a fair assumption).

I just went through exactly the same problem as yo did with my outdoor module. It suddenly failed to connect. I cleaned the contacts with an eraser tip, and got it working for a couple of months - then the same failure occurred. This time I couldn't get it working again, and I managed to break mine just as you did. I ordered a replacement outdoor module, which I received today, but the new one also won't connect. I assumed that each of the outdoor modules are set up exactly the same as another, and that the replacement would just require the batteries installed to integrate it with the primary unit. Now I'm not sure whether that's true or not, and I can't find any instructions for replacing the outdoor module. @Revive IT - were you able to just put a new outdoor module in service, to connect it with the main unit, without any configuration required?

Well, I finally realized that Netatmo was still seeing the old SN Outdoor Module, so I had to Download the Netatmo Module Manager, Remove the old Outdoor Module, and Add the new one to the configuration. All seems OK with the new one, now, thankfully.

A little bit of configuration is required. The support-team of Netatmo always was very helpful to me, you can contact them or read this instruction: helpcenter.netatmo.com/en-us/smart-home-weather-station-and-accessories/setup-installation/how-to-add-a-module-to-my-smart-home-weather-station Make sure that the base-station and the outdoor-module are in the same room when you first pair them. Not to close though, one meter is fine.

Ik heb hem geopend en schoongemaakt met wat staalwol uit het keukenkastje. Lampje knippert een paar keer geel/groen.

Helaas geen verbinding na het poetsen, dus met stickerverwijderaar op een wattenstaafje het aangetaste gedeelte op het printje schoongemaakt. Werkt nu wel weer.
