I have never seen NetBSD on the mac68k architecture till now, thank you for this awesome video. I wish I had a computer with a different ISA other than x86 or amd64/x86_64 :(

I have my Quadra 800 with 132MB ram. It has NetBSD 9.2 installed, and I have Dillo browser installed. Yeah it is slow, but for a 30MHZ system I am impressed. It will never be a daily driver, but is fun to tinker around with.

When I bought my LC III with 4 MB of Ram and a 160 MB of storage back in 1993, I thought I had one of the fastest computers on the planet! It is also the first machine that I ever surfed the Internet on back in '94 thinks to my home phone line, an attached 9600 baud modem and a CompuServe account. Pages with any sort of backgrounds and images were extremely slow to load. The Internet was really like the wild wild west back then. (NOTE: Edited this comment to change 160 GB to 160 MB. LOL!)

AHHHH THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! Wish more people did this for their videos! Any lightweight browsers work like Dillo? How’s the hardware/3D acceleration?! Do you have a “how to” video anywhere? Using this with SSH or X over SSH or XRDP to connect to a more powerful pc would be interesting, especially if you can stream audio to it…

I ran NetBSD 1.6.1 on an SE/30 with a PDS ethernet card for years, I even built Apache from source on it. I remember it being slow but nothing like this!

I've seen cpu upgrades in the Amiga world that allow 68k Amigas to run native operating systems & code several times faster than even the top level 68060s, but I've never seen similar upgrades for 68k Macs, Unix workstations, etc... Is there literally no interest in something that could speed up the experience in demanding 68k applications or OSes like NetBSD?

I've been looking to do this for years, primarily on my Old World PowerPC Macs. What resources/tutorials did you follow to get this running? 😄
