Not just the acting was bad. Dialogues were bad. They were dull because there is no character development. Sokka was sexist: - Called Katara doing strange female stuff - And Katara retorted. - Told Suki "No way a bunch of girls defeated us!" - Suki retorted "Inagi is going to feast well tonight!" - Katara said to Suki "Ignore my brother..." - Suki makes Sokka pay for being proudfull and only accept to train him after he is dressed like a girl, tells Sokka "The strongest warrior in your village huh? Common girls wouldn't you like him to show us" - she appeals to his HUGE ego to crush him. These stuff were all reased. - Sokka no longer sexist. No funny dialogues with neither Katara nor Suki. No more lessons to learn here as he always behaves like a perfect model brother. Katara used to be frustrated with Aang because Aang is a natural talent, and because of that frustation she becomes Aang masters, as she seriously wanted to learn and be better than Aang. Now Katara is already better than Aang. Aang is completely destroyed as the only thing that he could possible have - wisdom - he appologizes to Katara about not being wise enough to train her, making him completely pointless. Azula used to be cold reason, perfect psychopath without any remorse, now she is weak and frustrated with Zuko. May is fat, and this fat promotion is like promoting sickness. "Yes it's OK to be FAT, yes BE FAT, GET SICK, DIE YOUNG, don't you dare feel bad about being fat, we don't want you to live a long happy life. We need you to live a long fatness life full of sickness because we like you being fat and sick!" So that's what the problem is, when you remove the faults of each character, each character has no growth and the show becomes dull and boring. Acting is the least of the problem. Dialogues are. Politically correctness is the problem.

I hate the girl playing Azula’s character the most. I was looking forward to an evil looking Azula, but then they casted an innocent faced girl who looks can’t embody the character well. One look at Azula in the cartoon and we knew she was a force to be reckoned with.

Zhao is a joke, completely took out the spirituality and wisdom from the old series and replaced with Netflix garbage writing. this is a pure example of just because they look like the character its not enough. No wonder the Creators left the show!

It's 6/10 for me. As positive things, the visual effects, costume and set design, and the performances of actors of Aang ,Zuko and Sokka i liked. Hated the facts, that Katara didn't need Master Paku to become the master water-bender and Aang didn't even try to learn any waterbending, not a bit! and, yeah as much as i love Kyoshi, i didn't like the fact that they replaced Roku with her. 👀 just came to see if this community has eyes or wants to sugar coat the show even though it was hyped up so much. Honestly it didn’t need to match it. But it could have been an 8/10 and I would’ve been happy. It was a 4/10 and that’s being nice.

I just finished the entire Avatar Live action, and unfortunately. I will say I did enjoy the first episode. But I did not enjoy this adaptation. This felt WAY too rushed. They took story lines and elements from the future of the episodes, changing the dynamics of characters and removing important story lines that play a huge part in the future. Also, I did not like the disrespect they did to the past Male Avatars(Roku and Kuruk). They gave the spotlight to Avatar Kyoshi. I dont hate they gave more to Kyoshi, I just dont like there is 0 mention of the most recent Avatar before Aang (Roku) until very late in the show and Roku feels like a completly different character. He is the avatar who is supposed to be Aangs main go-to for the show but they made him into a joke charater. Azula was also big problem for me. She was introduced soo early and she did NOT insinuate the battle of the Nothern Water Tribe. She also is supposed to have Blue fire when we first meet her but she has Red??!? Why does she have red then it slowly turns Blue in a singular scene? Another thing that bugs me was Bumi. Aang finds out that the King of Omashu is Bumi way too early. Not to mention Bumi doesn't feel like Bumi. He blames Aang too much for what happens and his reasoning to giving Aang the trials are different. In this it feels like Bumi wanted to torment Aang not help him by thinking outside the box when it comes to fighting the firelord and stopping the fire nation from destroying the world, which is also not brought up at ALL. The entire reason Team Avatar is on this journey is because Roku(who was disrespected) told Aang about Sozens Comet and he has to master the 4 elements by the end of summer. Which is also the whole reason why the go to the Northern Water Tribe. Aang needs to find a Water Bending Master so he can stop the Firelord. After watching this I can see why the creators of Avatar left

So I was out as soon as Aang started flying like Superman. I know he can jump super high and propel himself up with airbending….but he looked like captain marvel zooming around. This was like the first 30 seconds of seeing him.

Here's the thing I did not go into this series thinking "This series is going to suck if its not a shot for shot live action remake of the animated show." Truthfully I don't think anyone else expected that either. The biggest thing I enjoy about this show is the conveyance of emotion. The Shyamalan movie was so devoid of emotion. So obviously the live action show is better than the movie. I think it would be impossible to do worse than the movie. I also highly appreciated the overall esthetic of the show from the look of the characters to the environment and the bending. It all looks stunning. I appreciate seeing the other Avatars in action. In the animated show Roku had a few action sequences and Kyoshi didn't have any action scenes except for one which was the creation of her Island which was awesome but, its still only one time we actually got to see her in action. She mostly provided exposition. So I enjoyed the other Avatars getting some more action scenes. I think giving the other Avatars a bigger role to play in Aang's journey is a good way to create a point of difference between the animated show and the live action show. Hopefully we see more of Avatar Roku in season 2. Now its time for the not so good things. The acting needs some work. Like I said everyone looks good and everyone emoted really well but, I admit the acting feels very much like a live action Nickelodeon sitcom. Its too hokey but, if you're into Nickelodeon sitcoms then you can enjoy the performances well enough. I agree that Iroh needs some serious enlightening because he's still not wisdom-y enough and I do see that as a problem because Iroh will be a very important main character in this show. Overall I'd give the show a 6/10 it actually exceeded my expectations but, there's a fair amount of work to do. Maybe with some time and hard work the series can be really good.

I hated alot bout this show, but lemme quickly point out in defense of the actor playing ozai, that the reason ozai felt so deep in the original series is that they kept him a mystery and we had to wait over 40 episodes b4 actually seeing his face, i actually remember even when i finally saw him in season 3 i did feel a little underwelmed(that is until i saw what he could do in the eclipse episode) By bringing ozai earlier like they did in this Netflix show, you removed that mystic and aura and thats why the character felt toned down, not the actor

honestly i really dont like how aang is being acted. i dont feel connected to him at all. And all he ever talks about is "I need to help" and "I can never let bad things happen again", idk i just really didnt like the acting and how they didnt show any depth in character building. The continuity is also very off and confusing at times. Like anng is in a rush to save sokka and katara from Koh but then hes gone for at least a day and a half? And then he needs that thing to give back to koh and i dont even know how he gets it and sokka and katara are suddenly saved. there are so many examples like that. the shows writing was so bad. I will say zukos plot line is wayyyyy better than the gaangs, and those parts are much easier to follow and enjoyable. dallas does a good job of zuko given the terrible pacing and script.

1:18 “I just sat through all 8 episodes” couldn’t have said it better myself. It was painful to watch, I found myself skipping through a lot of the poorly written moments. The ONLY part I truly enjoyed was when Iroh explains to the sailors that zuko saved their lives when he spoke out of turn in the military briefing. It makes sense that the fire lord would banish the 41st battalion along with zuko since zuko defended them. This was a great example of how they could expand the amazing lore of the show. It turn out the original writers wrote that scene which makes sense why it was so good. The rest of the show is hot garbage water.

It was the little things that made me have a tantrum like a child and shut it off 5-10 minutes into episode 4. I love ATLA, especially all things earthbending, and episode 3 the atrocities they committed to Omashu alone made my blood start to boil.

Jet's actor would have been a perfect Zuko, Suki and Azula should have swapped actors, and the near death of momo was just cheap as hell and upsetting for the wrong reason. The original story is so quietly beautiful, the characters are real, flawed, and you care so much about them. This was so sadly disappointing.

The writing is terrible. The choices for character development are terrible. And it really makes it obvious how none of this would of an issue if the creators were in charge.

The guy who plays Iroh actually has done a lot of voice work for the original series as far as side characters like for example he played the first fire ending teacher Aang had when he burned kataras hands and can change his voice and everything. So it was shocking that who ever was directing let him do it in his own voice and didn’t add that old iroh rugged and spiritual touch. Especially when u have practice as a voice actor to do that.

it is so painful to witness, I just wish I could unsee the live action... there's no wow-factor... no emotion... no chemistry... nothing that can make it memorable like the og show... it's astoundingly depressing, becuase i can't unsee this abomination... Gyatso, the greatest airbender in the world, didn't even put up a fight that lasted more than ten seconds... In the original show, Gyatso was surrounded by the bodies of almost a platoon of firebenders... Bumi is portrayed as a salty, dumb old man who blames his 12-year-old friend (a literal child) for running away instead of a nutty yet very wise and understanding old friend who gives guidance to Aang to be a better Avatar... Katara is supposed to be the most mature of the group, very headstrong, brave, and sturdy like a rock. Yet she's also caring and maternalistic, like a mother. She's a very remarkable female character who has faith in everyone and never refuses to turn her back on people who need her. I say everybody should have a sister or even a mother like Katara. That is how brilliant Katara's character is. Not a submissive little sister who needs to be looked after by her big brother, like how they portrayed her in the Netflix Live Action. Airbending seemed okay, but a lot more improvement is needed to show the full potential of airbending (not good enough). Earthbending doesn't have any solid martial art choreography and stance that makes it look like Earthbending. It just looks like people using telekinesis to chuck rocks at each other, like Magneto in X-men. Appa should have more character, as he's a very important member of the team that carries the whole gang on his back throughout the entire show. By the way, I didn't know Momo died because I didn't care to watch more episodes of Netflix's Live Action bullcrap... I am actually fuming at the showrunners right now 😠👿.

According to The Avatarist on his Channel he said that Netflix decided that Roku was going to warn Aang about the Comet but won’t know when it is coming to give more unpredictability to the Live Action Series versus being told that the comet will come by summer’s end in the original series.

Bruv You cannot do a 1 on 1 live action, that is impossible and this show was pretty good if you look at the cast. The cast is still young which will give a good character development. And for Season 2 they can look back at season 1 and better themselves. The seeds are planted now let them grow. Besides they only got a maximum budget and with that amout of money they had to be very creative. Lets give this Netflix Show a chance and let them get a higher amount of budget to repair the mistakes.

OF COURSE IT'S UNMATCHED, but this show it's quite neat. It's a bit serious which makes it a bit dull, acting yes, it looks mediocre, but they did pictured their imaginary of this world. I think they did make a different way of showing depth of the characters as they differ the metaphysical stuff. Don't compare the animation and live-action. Treat it as individual show. Also after failure of Witcher, Netflix started to keep the main idea of the show in the grip.

I knew at the end of the first episode when they replace Aang in the Avatar state with katara water ending the first time that they were going to screw the story up. If only they cared as much about staying true to the storyline as much as including punchlines from the cartoon.

The many reasons you said are insolvable in a live action adaptation because attempting to do so will result in the 'Harry Potter problem' where the character mature faster for them to pass as the character in the storyline. In my opinion, these changes were inevitable in any version of an attempt of a live action version.

The one's that are gonna dislike it are those that set expectations and refuse to let go and can't help but to compare it with the animated series because if that's the mindset you have then you're not gonna enjoy it no matter what. Some people already dislike it even before watching it because they've already made up their mind that they're not gonna like it so yeah that's a personal issue. Sure i does have it's flaws, many actually but it got progressively better and better each episode and by the last episode i was so sold and can't wait for season 2. Of course, they make a good father figure shit. Sokka and Katara's father was a cool masculine leader, that we all can look up to. He chose to stay in during the attack on the fire nation attack, and gave Sokka confidence instead of smacking him down. It's a complete 180.

Overall i think the show was good enough to get a second season but I just really don't understand episodes 7 and 8. Aang never even once bends water in the first season. Katara doesn't learn anything from Paku but somehow is a master water bender. Aang not sticking up for Katara When she wasn't allowed to learn water bending.... I really didn't like that at all

You try turning 20 episodes into eight going from animation to live action that’s like going from the real world to the spirit world, and expecting to be doing the exact same thing

I think it was OK, mid but not terrible. The acting however is very problematic, at least half of the cast couldn’t act if their life depended on it, although sometimes it’s writing and directing issues. Aang, Sokka, Zuko, Ozai - their acting is really good, I really like them. Katara’s actress however… I’m sorry but Kiawentiio’s performance is simply bad, I couldn’t care less about her character throughout the show while in the original animation Katara’s character is outstanding. The writing also doesn’t do her any good service - the fact that she just becomes a master waterbener with a few weeks of self-training from scatch is just cringe, it makes me care even less about her. Iroh’s actor is not bad, but again bad direction and writing just made him a very bland character. However the biggest disappointment for me was Master Paku - it was a travesty. In the animation he is cocky and sarcastic and overall leaves an impression to be remembered, in this live-action he is just boring. Besides, if Master Paku isn’t going to train anyone anyway, neither Aang, nor Katara, what’s even the point of existence of his character? He also has no relation to Gran Gran which again takes away from the dynamic between him and Katara (it’s pretty much nonexistent in this show). And once again, in the second season we are probably going to have a time skip (which was confirmed multiple times by the producers of the show) and if that’s the case then why not let Paku train Katara and Aang at least for some time, you know exactly as it was in the original instead of just giving it all in Katara’s hands who barely knows anything about waterbending and is just good at this out of the blue? The upside for me was surprisingly the dynamic between Ozai, Azula and Zuko, overall the fire family storyline overshadows everything that was going on with Aang - that was one of the few things I really liked. I’m kind of skeptical about this new portrayal of Azula where we see her as very flawed and conflicted from the get-go as opposed to the animated series where she is just perfect and unbreakable up until the very end where she snaps but we’ll see how it goes.

Thinking the original could be topped is unrealistic!!! Some changes had to be made, they changed a little bit too much. Some of the actors was good and some bad. Visuals were good. Overall a good adaptation that I enjoyed, could have been better but it wasn't bad!!

They can’t do the comet any sooner like they did in the animated show… in the series the entire plot takes place over the course of one year… and that’s fine because animated characters don’t age… but this is live action, and you can’t write, film, and produce an entire three season show in live action in one years time… the kid actors are going to age over the course of this series visibly… there’s no way of knowing how long it will take for seasons 2 and 3 to make. So it would be weird if the show pretends it’s only happening over the course of one year, when the 11 year old aang is suddenly 17 by season 3… and aang would need to master the elements quickly to end the war, because the longer he takes to become a master, the more people will continue to die in the war… the comet deadline will likely be introduced in season three to put pressure on aang to master fire bending. I’m not saying that I disagree with your opinions completely. There are many changes to this show that I personally didn’t like, but I’d say it’s still pretty good overall… I understand that they had to work in some of the smaller story lines to fit them into the 8 episode runtime they were given. Combining some of the different stories felt a bit off, but I feel like they still managed to include the important parts in a way that believable. I don’t know… I enjoyed it for the most part, and can’t wait for season 2…

In my opinion I mostly disagree with the comments on this video. I for one never expected this interpretation to match or even never thought I could compared the orginal animated series with this interpretation. The animated series will always be on it's own class/league and as many other re-makes on other first time series they can never give you the same experience. I think many had unlealistic expectations going into it instead of looking at it for what it is. "A different interpretation of the same story" And yes there is stuff we can all be critical about/nick pick and things we could say "I would have done it differently". I think for the most part a first time comer would be fine with it. And over all I think it was alot better than other attempts that we don't even waht to speak about....... Just my opinion.

Seeing that we may never get a good live action version of Avatar. This is a step up from the previous movie version. I enjoyed it for what it was, because now I see even with this one, the animated version is just the best way to experience this story. I don't think anyone else will spend the money to make another live action version after this one. #Ijs,🤔😉

The show was good on its own.. Its not the animation one but if you havent watched the animation story but it hit important concepts that were part of the show. The problem is people are expecting the exact show of the animation

The actors look accurate as far as visuals but as for character and how they behave , it’s a huge let down

I feel like I’m going insane. Can someone please tell me they really liked Zuko’s portrayal as well? I thought the actor did a great job and I feel like his scenes with Iroh were my favorite part about the show.
