it’s SO unjustified by anything other then execs’ greed… it’s not meant to be told as 2 part story, it’s not a final season, it’s not 20+ episodes, previous seasons were released differently. this is just horrible. if they wanted 2 months worth of subscription fee they should’ve just stuck to a weekly drop. death to the monthly subscription streaming, it shoots creativity in the foot and profits no one but the ceos

splitting seasons started when seasons were 22 episodes on cable tv, so it made sense back then but it's so unecessary with 8-episode shows designed to be binged on streaming services rather than watched week-to-week on tv with a long holiday break after the mid-season finale.

This was my original thought. wtf am I supposed to do with 4 episodes…. If the seasons for these shows were longer it would make sense. It would be worth the wait. But 4 episodes…. That’s so annoying. And if the reasoning for this is simply to maintain viewership or people keeping their subscriptions… maybe focusing on creating better more consistent content then people would stay. Just a thought lol

exactly and with the 22 ep long shows they gave us mid season finales before the break so it still felt satisfying
@lutilda

It was literally because seasons ran from the fall to spring, but viewership is down during the holidays, so the networks HAD to break it up. But that's the only reason.

they do it bcos the asian dramas are like that. but the asian ppl started watching netflix to escape from precisely that. it is ridiculous. not only that, most netflix shows end at a cliffhanger then have no season 2. they drop the shows whenever. that is why, i dont watch netflix anymore. if i hear a show has 3 or more seasons, then i will watch it all together. that is what people shud do. just stop watching netflix altogether. only watch old shows that have complete seasons.

When I heard this season of Bridgerton (S3) would be split, my first reaction was "Is Netflix trying to kill this show?!" and watching the first half, artificially clipped where it was for the first half, made me worry it might actually be true! Because show-splitting is a sure-fire way to lose audience and momentum.

okay here’s my thing about this season of bridgerton…it’s leaving such an icky taste in my mouth. they have this beautiful romantic lead who is not the typical body shape of the previous female leads and she has to battle for screen time against other side plots that are boring + now it’s splitting her season causing her storyline to drop in excitement/not follow through in a satisfying way. so frustrating as i was majorly looking forward to what they were going to do with her character development & romance plot!

I started complaining about this in 2020 when they started doing that to kdramas. Dramas are usually 16 episodes long and they'd split them into 2 seasons of 8 episodes. They were single handedly ruing kdramas for me. I think they started doing this because they figured people were getting memberships just to watch the new season of a show. If they split the seasons over 2 months, then they'd have to renew for a second month. I used to be a Netflix ride-or-die. Now, with this and discovering their "second screen" concept for their movies (they deliberately make slow, mediocre films so you can be on your device while you watch because apparently, that's how people watch TV these days), I'm ready to let my membership go.

…if you’re talking about Polin from Bridgerton, how exactly did they lack in portraying the passion?? Their scenes were OOZING passion! Not to mention how this season was a culmination of their relationship being built over TWO SEASONS before this
@starsign0805
@starsign0805 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I really don't get this perspective. This season has the sweetest, most romantic story yet, and Polin's chemistry for me outshone the lead couples even in the first 2 seasons, cause what were the previous 2 relationships even based on? Anthony and the Duke were not likeable characters at all. The Duke's childhood story was super endearing and emotional, but as an adult, he was a snooty, bitter, emotionally unavailable rake. I believed Daphne and Simon were in love, but, it wasn't the most compelling love story. They were attracted to each other, they were forced to marry because of it, and they almost didn't make it till the last moment because there was no real compatibility between them. On the other hand, Anthony was a mega control-freak who literally viewed women like cattle. He never had a redemptive moment either, where Kate actually got to see something so good about him that her hate for him turned into love. 'The line between love and hate is thin' is not a great reason for a couple to fall in love. This is literally somebody who disgusts you, as a person, you're literally warning your sister against marrying him, but because he's hot and as competitive as you, you're starting to fall in love? It just wasn't realistic. The actors did a fantastic job, Johnny Bailey swept me away with his acting, but Kanthony only works for me as a married couple. But, Colin and Penelope have been supporting each other when no one else was since literally day 1. They're good people, with flaws of their own, who actually care for each other. In my opinion, it's the only true love's match, apart from Violet and Edmund.
@ngweso
@ngweso 2 ай бұрын
@@starsign0805 it doesn’t matter how much your characters care for each other if we never actually see it on the screen. Penelope and Colin have been portrayed honestly, as friendly acquaintances. Eloise and pen is an example of how to write a convincing friendship. What makes it worse is that Pen begged him to kiss him (lame writing) and then he now magically realized he’s in love with her? The direction they chose just seemingly makes no sense, and the wasted potential is massive

@@starsign0805the thing with all these bridgerton love stories is that all of them are kinda based of of nothing. But the way the first two seasons were written, the stereo typical trope that they chose was actually given time to develop hence the audience actually feels that there could be something there. This season, they went from friends to lovers in 0.5 seconds. Kate and Anthony were literally beefing until Edwina’s wedding day like-

i also think a time it was done well was stranger things s4 because that was an artistic choice. ep 7 was kind of its own finale in a way with the reveal and made us excited for the last 2 episodes. I think netflix saw how good that did and decided to do it with all their shows, but didn’t care enough to know why ST did it. it’s so clear to me that execs at these entertainment companies don’t actually care about the entertainment itself.

In anime recently, some series have their seasons split into two and even 3 parts. And that's okay because it always happens to a series with at least 24 episodes per season. It works because the plot always makes sense. I don't get why there's only 8 episodes but divided into 2 seasons. Sure there was a cliffhanger in episode 4 but it was so odd. Granted that each episode runs for about an hour but the pacing with the addition of the multiple subplots just makes it all messy. I agree, either drop all episodes at the same time or make it a weekly thing. Heck, for kdrama, they drop 2 episodes per week and it works. 8 episodes with that pacing? That's 4 weeks/ a month of constant traffic and buzz for the series.

Netflix has trained the mass to binged shows and regretted it when shows they dropped disappear from conversation within 1 week. Still, they don't dare going the weekly route since they want to own the "binging behavior", while jealously look at HBO, Disney+, or Amazon shows that have longer lifetime for their investment because the conversation last at least 2 months each.

Forcing people to keep subscriptions longer by ruining a series. Is not in any way smart. I am done with Netflix. Bad enough it takes a decade to watch 5 seasons of a show (That is if they don't cancel the show halfway through the series). Now they are going to drag out one season across multiple years just to try and desperately hang on to subscribers. It's pathetic. A new platform really needs to come in and wipe Netflix off the map.

They had a mini series called Rivervale and then had a pause for a few weeks, then picked back up as the story returned to Riverdale. I know this show is hated but that mini series was enjoyable. Splitting up a season was a tactic introduced for tv when seasons were more than 20 episodes. It made sense to do that because it would take months to write, film & edit but now they’re spending less time and money on these shows and their goal is profit, not retention. They want to squeeze as much out of their viewers financially as possible, which is why I’d prefer to have them release an episode a week like how Amazon Prime released Reacher. That would keep viewers excited, building on the anticipation rather than releasing it in parts and waiting a month for the second half. Especially for Bridgerton, which thinking about it, it took 2 years to get season 3 which is quite ridiculous for an 8-episode season. I work in tv shows (unscripted) and it takes about 2 weeks to edit and deliver an episode that’s 30 minutes, so maybe 3-4 weeks for an episode that’s 60 minutes… so about 32 weeks or 8 months to edit and deliver all episodes.

Netflix’s most successful non-binge format release to date was Arcane. 3 weekly episode drops with 3 episodes each, where each trio of episodes was a relatively contained arc in the story. You can tell when they wrote the script they had this release format in mind and it was the first season of the show so there were no expectations on if it was supposed to be binge or not. A week is a perfect amount of time to keep your audience engaged and talking about your show, besides the literal stans no one is talking about Bridgerton two weeks later so they failed in keeping the conversation going. If it’s about subscriptions, they also failed because I see multiple people who are waiting for part 2 to buy a month of Netflix to watch the whole thing. I just don’t see how this is the go-to strategy as opposed to the much more appreciated by audiences, tried and true binge and weekly release formats.

Spoiler the main romantic leads end up together 😱 like lol there is no spoiling it and if you’re that worried just don’t go on twitter? I don’t have a twitter and I can confidently say I’ve never been spoiled on anything unless I engage with content that involves the thing I’m trying to avoid. So you can wait until it all drops and Netflix doesn’t get their two month subscription they’re aiming for. the only reason why i started watching netflix shows is bcos they released it together. not one by one. have you noticed that they even started doing the same thing as the asian dramas? they release it piece by piece week by week. just trickling it down. that is why i dont watch netflix anymore. we have so many other shows in asia that i cud watch while torturing myself week after week. no need to have netflix for that.

I refuse to watch Season 3 until it's complete. Streaming should equal binging. If not, why bother?
