as someone who didn't watch the anime or read the manga beforehand (the amount of episodes & chapters really had me fearing for my life) i really enjoyed the live action! it was a really fun time and i ended up really caring for the characters and wanting to know what happens next 👁 aaaand i had my younger brother who does watch the anime on standby just in case i had any questions, which luckily i didn't have many 💪

I understood they had to move/change a few plot lines around for a consistent story but maintain the spirit of the One Piece world (the world is fantastical, colourful, dark, and filled with adventure). Not everything had to be the exact same as the manga, otherwise it’ll feel unwarranted for fans (who are the majority of the audience), because they’ve seen the story executed in a better medium, so it made sense to make some changes to the plot. But for new audiences, this live-action will be the most perfect entrance into the world of One Piece for them which makes me (a fan of the manga and anime), super glad to see others fall in love with the story I grew up with. I hope the second season will be a bit longer (10 episodes in length), a bigger budget for cleaner vfx especially for Chopper’s character, and the scale of the Alabasta war arc.

I love your comment!! Even if the story has been executed in a better medium, the LA still did a great job of maintaining what makes the manga and anime special. I also agree, I hope season 2 is longer and has a higher budget (with how well the show is doing, it probably will get a higher budget). I also hope they make Chopper practical (either as a someone in a suit or a puppet like Grogu).

just a few things. you said the syrup village arc is just one episode, but it’s actually 2. this season didn’t cover 1000 chapters of the manga and 50 anime episodes, it covered 95 chapters of the manga. The manga only has around 1090 chapters.

the actors did a good job, the essence whas captured i guess, BUT the camerawork, many special effects and much of the action all felt too cringy for me. i started whatching onepace after whatching a few live action eps, so i guess it was succesful there. there is just too much physics defying things that feel good when animated but dont fit with live action (could be adapted at the cost of fedelity and... money, but even then, why bother when the anime already tells the story better?)

Yeah that's a good point in terms of things not defying physics and what not but I think the show is doing so because it's more so a love letter and re-introduction to what one piece is rather than trying to explain the fine details. It looks at the big picture but I think you've got some great points!
