It's pretty sad that we've become so accustomed as a society, to seeing older people in like their 20's, playing teens, that everyone's first reaction is to assume they look super young, when in actuality, they're almost the same age as the characters they play.

Sunny Sketches I agree. People are always saying “Looks don’t matter” even though when they see someone that looks different from what they expected they get annoyed. They chose them for their abilities and maybe looks.

These books were my childhood! I didn't even mind them changing some of the girls backgrounds/ethnicities, although I was slightly annoyed to see that Jesse was a lighter complexion; the book covers always portrayed her to be dark skinned but hey, ya can't please everyone. Either way, I enjoyed it. Nice and light hearted and included storylines from the original books while slightly changing around a few things. Hope there's a season two!

Netflix saves protesting and hardship roles for dark skinned black women and girls. They are not shown in light hearted roles like this. Always the short end of the stick.

As someone who grew up with the books, the original TV series, and movie adaptation, this version still feels like the same characters/world. The way they updated and tailored it to each character was smart and organic. Hoping for a s2!

Same. I am well out of my teens but I grew up reading the BSC books. They were my favorite. So I really wanted to see how this series treated the original material. I was not disappointed. I think these young ladies did an amazing job of bringing the characters to life.

You are the only one to mention this. EVERYONE literally said they included everybody. Black girls got left out. No shade to the biracial girl, but that is what happens when ppl call mixed ppl black; they replace them. White ppl see that kind of "black girl" as more palatable as it satisfies those with biracial kids and its "safe black." They can use both black and biracials so black girls are included. Most of them don't look like that. Netflix sure does know how to find dark skinned girls for negatively and struggle shows.

I think the representation in this show was PHENOMENAL. They weren't afraid to go a different path while staying true to the books. The LGBTQ+ and POC representation is once again amazing. They made everything about a gay/trans character so casual and it was so well done.
