Moon - What a weird comment, Black culture IS universal. African Americans are not cooler or more Black or whatever than Afro-Latinos, Afro-Caribbeans, African and Caribbean Brits, Black Africans on the continent or anywhere else. The entire diaspora borrows and reflects each other.

sherry gg I congratulate you on having both a degree and getting your masters. It can take a lot out of person. I don’t necessarily think just because you got the slipper you decided to work. You wanted to get your education and that was your choice and I don’t think it’s healthy perpetuate hitting a child, using forceful discipline (however anyone wants to describe it) in order to equate them not doing as your friends did. Maybe education wasn’t for them. I maybe be naive in saying that but I know a lot of people who were disciplined by their parents and are highly fucked up in their adult lives because of it, and drugs were only one of their problems. Maybe you were lucky but it doesn’t benefit everyone. I can say that from what I’ve seen.

This is fantastically relatable. This particular bit reminded me about so much stuff growing up. 'Go get my bag', the fact that she'd always go "aaaagh, fuck sake!" when I'd wake her up for some pocket money, and the fact that my mum's room was fucking PITCH at all times.

I used to get beat with wire from the net curtain. It's basically a very tightly coiled length of metal which can stretch (because of the coiling) and is usually coated in white plastic. It basically becomes a whip when you're beaten with it and it rips the skin and can cause you to bleed depending on how badly you've been beaten. Needless to say, it hurts like absolute hell!
