I completely understood why the Romanians got upset over that question. Aside from the fact it's hugely disrespectful towards the Romanian team it's also not a fair description of how the Dutch team feels about them. They know underestimating any team at this stage will lead to dissater and are fully aware of their own under performance. There are a couple of Dutch sport journalists that either are oblivious or don't care how their questions or remarks come across. They always hide behind the "Oh you can't handle a tuf question or criticism?" or some other deflecting b.s. Anything to just not take any accountability on how they phrase their question. And then these same journalists wonder and complain about the bad relationship between players and press.

If we play like we did against Austria we can lose against anyone. It was so poor. But if we play like we did in the prep games we should make it to the semi final. So i have no idea, but it is very dependent what dutch team decides to show up.

Not necessarily, because while the Dutch were bad, they also were unlucky. The 1-0 for Austria was an own goal and later on Malen somehow missed what would otherwise obviously be a goal. And in the second half they were better than they were in the first half, but not going all the way in defending and taking it too lightly led to two more goals for Austria. So even then they could still win. But who knows, looking at Portugal and England trying to take on their respective Eastern European opponents, they could’ve lost as well.

I haven't watched football in a long time. As a dutchy I decided to watch The Netherlands vs Austria, what an embarrassment. Oranje lacks any spirit or will to win, sloppy finishing and amateur defending. I miss the time of Sneijder, Robben, van Persie, Nigel de Jong and van Bommel. That being said, Austria also played really well. But the dutch team looked like a team of spoiled brats who expected to win instead of working to win, such an embarrassment. Of course I love to see the Netherlands win a prize for a change, but if Romania wins, I won't shed a tear. It will probably be well deserved. May the best win!

I think most people here did not underestimate Romania. Any team at this stage deserves a certain amount of respect, but you do also need a certain amount of confidence and try to cultivate a winning culture, even if recent results, recent form or even the current quality of the team don’t justify it. I think that is one thing that separates countries like Germany, France, Spain and Italy, from countries like Holland and England. They are more easily able to win games and even tournaments without necessarily having the greatest form. The fact that they’ve won plenty, and quite recently, is a huge psychological advantage. Having lost a big final recently doesn’t help us either. And we generally suck at the psychological part of the game. The time wasting, subtly influencing the ref, the irritating, the provocation, we try to play along but everyone always gets a rise out of us. We always take the bait. And we suck at penalties.

Everyone has a chance in football mate. Yeah on paper the Dutch are favourite, I mean Romania whole team is worth only €89 M while the Dutch whole team is worth close to €1 B. But you know that group that had Belgium as favourites and Ukraine as second with Slovakia and Romania fighting for third. Romanians have topped it. How about the qualifying group in which Switzerland was favourite and Romania topped it by 5 points. We might not have names that you would recognize on a piece of paper, but make no mistake, our team will fight for every inch on that field.

Frimpong is too weak defensively as right back in 4 at the back and Dumfries is class, especially in the Dutch squad. Maybe as a sub if want to go more offensively/ different.
