Fun fact, limburg used the be atleast half part of gelderland before the united 7 provinces of the netherlands was founded. Dating back all the way somewhere in the 900s Gelderland also has the smallest city in the world, staverden

i am from gelderland , my city (Zutphen) use to be a reginal trade HUB , capital in the medieval times and still has a lot of old towers and old city walls.

4:26 There are different approaches to it. For instance when the central government has some nonsensical rule, Frisians are more likely to protest, while limburg will probably say yes and then ignore it and Brabant will ignore it as long as possible and then protest.😂 (The cultural differences have historical reasons.)

About Arnhem, they forgot important history info: Arnhem was one of the 3 cities the allies wanted to capture the 3 most important bridges back from the Germans during WWII, to enter Germany and end the war. They started in Eindhoven on to Nijmegen and Arnhem was the last city. Unfortunately this operation, named Market Garden, ended badly in Arnhem. Still every year we remember the fallen, every year the veterans who are still alive, will come together with their family or the family is still honoring their fallen fathers. In 1976 or 1977 there was a movie made of this important operation: A Bridge Too Far, starring Robert Redford, Sean Connery and others.

I live in Harderwijk, Gelderland. Some say it's on the Veluwe and some say it's near or on the border of the Veluwe. I think we have the first aquaduct (a bridge for boats instead of cars and the cars go underneath this bridge, wanna know more just look it up 😉) Just a fun, chill, relaxed city to live

Holland is just a province, but we Dutchies do call our country Holland aswell sometimes.! i mean just hear the soccer fans of the dutch national team sing... haha ( the orange team ) but yea our country, or kingdom for that matter, is called The Netherlands... ( for a reason )

@12:48 This bible belt actually continues through (much less though) Germany up to Denmark to end in northern Norway.👴🧐 In Dutch it is "bijbelgordel", but there are more names. I like "De Kraaienloop" (The Crow walk) most.👴😉😁

Firework disasters are extremely common around new years, but 'the firework disaster' is definitely still fresh in people's minds. It's like the dutch equivalent of the explosion in Beirut, but it was also a big firework show that everybody knew about. I was 6 when it happened, and I remember this happening despite living on the other side of the country.

I'm Frisian born and bred and was very disappointed that they didn't mention the Skûtsjesilen-races and the Wadden-islands Terschelling, Vlieland and Ameland and the Wadden-sea. Try to find video's about this wonderful piece of our country, it's a UNESCO-site and so beautiful.

Hello HXC, you said at some point that as a Dutchman you would go to the Caribbean during the winter. Keep in mind that a return flight easily costs $640 per person, and that doesn't include a stay there. So getting away for a while during the holidays, for example, is unaffordable for most Dutch people....

Fun fact, in Limburg we actually speak "Diets" one of the most influentual Germanic accents. Oh, and Novio Magnum (Nijmegen) or Mosa Trajectum (Maastricht) are NOT the oldest settlements. It's Corriovallum (Heerlen), my home town. 🙃

Holland and Zeeland, both situated on the coast, were the two most powerful provinces during the Golden Age in which these seafaring nations discovered many undiscovered territories such as Australia and New Zealand, which were given the names New Holland and New Zeeland. It is not difficult to see which of the two stuck to its name. Still New Zealand traditionally is being written using a Dutch-z.

They were wrong about Flevoland consisting only out of polders as Urk is part of it, the former island is the only Dutch municipality which has been part of three extant Dutch provinces.

UTREG.. but thats just a pronounciation or slang.. why dont they say anything about the "domtower" all people from Utrecht know the "DOM" come on guys, do your homework.? i am from uthrecht so it was a little bit offensive to me, sorry XD BTW f*ck Amsterdam -.-
