My grandpa was in the navy at this time and was stationary on "de Kareldoorman", the carrier ship you saw. He always told me that those planes you saw landing were Skyhawks and that they would patrol the seas looking for hostile submarines for hours and hours, later he became an officer and started leading a decoding bunker. My dad was a First Lieutenant in the infantry forces. Always told me that he was carrying an Uzi and his soldiers had Fal's on them. He served a bit later but I think this video represents it really well. Thanks for showing us!

What's so special about it? Special. Better keep your dad's uniform at home as a prized collection, not for airsoft. Because NATO forces at the time *all* used only olive drab uniform (West Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Italy.. excluding Great Britain which in early 1980s adopted DPM pattern uniform). NATO-style OD green uniform is easy to be found online and replicate today.

1:10 Seems that at some point in 1960s or 1970s the Dutch used M1 Garands (.30-06) and FN FAL Model 50.41s (7.62 NATO) at the same time in infantry squads. Very interesting and unique combination.
@rogiervis2306
@rogiervis2306 Жыл бұрын
This is old footage. Probably early 1960. The Heavy barrel FAL (FALO how we named it) was issued in 1962. The M1 Garand was in use till approximately 1965 till all FAL's were delivered. After that, the Garand was used by the reserve militia till, believe it or not, 1985 and official obsolete in 1995 when the Diemaco C7 series replaced the FAL.

Between 1960 and 1980 4-3% of our GDP was spend on the army, because as mentioned there was an clear enemy that could invade any moment. These days there is no political will (because the people dont want it) to spend a similar amount of money on the army. Only reason it's slightly going up again is relentless American pressure.

Nou?
