I found this interesting in that inventor uses translucent surfaces....this makes it very hard for workflow because you sometimes have to almost guess which geometry you are working with because you can also see behind what you are working on... can you adjust opacity to help?

Yes you can ;) right-click context menu - uncheck translucent. But this doesn´t really help.

At the very end, how would you make the surface into a solid? Would you thicken/offset?, patch then stitch?

Yes, you should thicken it.

You mean how to measure? A more efficient way would be to do a drawing and dimension it.

Do you mean the colour of Surfaces of the colour of the faces of a solid? Since version 2019 you can change all colours in the options,

Sorry, I don´t understand. You want to know how to make a drawing? There are some videos in my channel regarding this topic - search for "drafting"

So you mean - how to use the measurement feature? You should make a drawing it is easier and faster.
