An absolute revelation. What a lovely voice. I had no idea that occasionally men retain their soprano range after puberty, thinking this was only possible with the reprehensible practice of castration. Since listening to this young man I have found several other men with this phenomenal gift. I recently turned 89 and am still making wonderful discoveries through serendipity as I search the internet.

Hello William. Indeed he has been classified as a male soprano. He had a high pitched voice when he was younger and was bullied at school. Doctors opted for surgery to fix the "issue" but the family opted out and the rest is history. There are a few natural castrati due to medical reasons with non fully developed larynges. It was a problem when he was a kid then his parents wanted him to get a surgery and the Doctor encorage him to sing Baroque music so here he is.

@@eclosion6940 No, Un contratenor es un tipo de voz cantada masculina clásica cuyo rango vocal es equivalente al de las voces femeninas de contralto o mezzosoprano El contratenor es la voz masculina más aguda, y se caracteriza por su capacidad para alcanzar notas altas y amplias en voz de cabeza y falsete no aireado. En la antigüedad, los castrati eran hombres a quienes se castraba antes de llegar a la pubertad para conservar su voz aguda infantil. Debido a las controversias que esto provocaba, la práctica terminó por prohibirse, y por tanto los contratenores asumieron el rol de los castrati a partir de la ópera barroca . La tesitura del contratenor no es precisa en el piano, puesto que se trata de un hombre que puede llegar a notas altas de los registros femeninos con su voz de cabeza (no falsete) . La mayoría tiene un registro muy amplio y pueden llegar notas altas (agudas). Solo algunos pueden llegar a la tesitura de la soprano . Saludos

I'm open to being corrected by others with more knowledge, but I don't think his voice is correctly described as counter tenor. He is in fact a natural male soprano.

Um dos melhores contratenores que tenho ouvido nestes últimos anos, com uma voz bastante natural, nada entubada ou áspera como infelizmente a de muitos ainda soa sobretudo quanto mais vão para os agudos. Eu comecei a ouvir esta ária e achei que era uma ótima soprano, mas logo vi que é um contratenor - e um que tem coloratura realmente ágil e trilos de verdade. Tem um futuro brilhante pela frente!
