Track 10 from my collection of old goa trance tracks made in Impulse Tracker. This one was finished on February 11, 1999 and here is where things are getting quite interesting. This is where I started experimenting with adding in a bit more complexity, at least from a technical behind the scenes point of view. That synth solo that comes in at around 5:45 is definitely a nod to the one in the Hallucinogen track "Demention", but I took it further, and one thing I clearly remember is that I managed to actually crash Impulse Tracker when writing that solo, so something in it unfortunately got lost.

Interesting! The original Unreal is still one of my favourite games (and soundtracks) ever, but I didn't play it until late 1999 when I got a computer that could actually run it :D

It's interesting what similarities people find in these tracks, even to music/games released later than these were made. And as a side note, I haven't actually played the first Deus Ex (yet), only Human Revolution, and a bit of Mankind Divided.

@@pauleye.official oooh missing out my friend, if you can get over the dated graphics the first one was a masterpiece for it's time in story and gameplay!

Well, my gaming has always been quite sporadic, so I've missed several classics over the years. And I don't really mind dated graphics if the gameplay is good :)

I cant imagine the patience that would have been required to make a full polished track on an old tracker!

Actually doing anything on Impulse Tracker was much easier and faster than on other trackers, thanks to the large amount of keyboard shortcuts available on it and also - Impulse Tracker 2 used the Scream Tracker 3 interface which was way better structured for a fast workflow, than the interface of the other trackers. And no surprise - Scream Tracker after all is the tracker of Future Crew. I started with Scream Tracker 2 back in the days and it was so much better than what was available. When Scream Tracker 3 came out it blew me, except that using FM instruments wasn't well synced with the samples and a good friend of mine, which is also a brilliant programmer told me it basically can't be fully synced the way it's done. Then Fast Tracker 2 came out and everybody were like "ahh this is the ultimate tracker" and for a lot of reasons it's amazing piece of software, but the moment I saw Impulse Tracker 2 I switched to it for the fast workflow. I abandoned it few years later only when seeing what Jeskola Buzz can do. Point was - Impulse Tracker 2 have a real fast workflow and when I say "fast" I really mean FAST. I am not disrespecting the guy who did this music, just saying Impulse Tracker allows for a full polished song to be finished much faster than other software.

IT was my first tracker so I didn't have anything I could compare it to. I definitely didn't "think" how fast it was to do things in it, it just came naturally (and apparently from how IT was designed). I also switched to Jeskola Buzz in late 1999, but despite spending over a decade with it I never really got anywhere with it (hundreds of sound design and track snippets and only a handful of finished tracks, of which all but one are quite terrible).

@@pauleye.official well Buzz is good. I actually came out with 4 songs in 2002, where I experimented to sing (back then I was in some vocal shape) and I even had a girl to sing with me which decided to quit in the day of the recording session so I had to cover for her too. No idea if youtube will allow me to post a link and excuse if it sounds like a self-promotion, but this song is 100% made in Jeskola Buzz, but was mastered by another guy in Cubase kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9hidpV2qa-Up3k.html

OpenMPT would be better candidate than that, TIC-80 is so damn limited, and also its a fantasy console, not just a tracker.
@zaxolotl
@zaxolotl Ай бұрын
@@zhitaburnurli9631 IMO I prefer Milkytracker over OpenMPT due to it's interface, but it's also much simpler in terms of things it can do, which may also be good for beginners :) Also, to the OP, TIC-80 is not C64 emulation, it's actually a lot more like the PC-Engine/TurboGrafX-16 or the Nintendo Virtual Boy, as it has 6 "wave-table" channels which can be any (low res) wave shape, which is just like those consoles aforementioned! (It also isn't "emulating" anything, since it's a made up device. I'd say tracking on it is pretty easy tho!)
