More this week from the Nevada State Railroad Museum. This week we are looking at the collection there, and the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. we visit Virginia City and ride the Virginia and Truckee which now connects with Carson City! We have the V and T #22 Inyo under steam, and two ten wheelers also under steam. And another glance at the Glenbrook under steam.

That would be great. Expensive though. No direct way to get there. Old main gone. They would need several overpass. But who knows?

Hey! Thanks for the video pretty awesome. NSRM has 3 steam locos that operate. #18 the dayton WAS in Virginia city but is now at the museum in carson city. The Glenbrook is pretty awesome! 1875 narrow gauge engine she is a beauty and ran up in The Tahoe area. I am glad you seperated the current V&T and the NSRM. we support eachother. Thanks for the support NSRM has their big weekend during the 4th.

This episode was just "chuck-full" of goodies. Not far from us, if one considers about a five hour drive not far. Well Done You. The Bachmann "ten wheelers" in large scale are not so far off the mark. Thank you for showing that.

Jeanne Uzar As a kid I always thought of Reno-Tahoe as the gateway to the Bay Area. After crossing the Great Basin TA DA!! And the thinking of the people and feel of the place was sort of the same. AND I still feel Sacramento is in the Bay and that's close (ish).

@@ToyManTelevision I used to drive tour buses out of San Francisco and "modified" the schedule so I could have more personal time in Virginia City. Did you know the Bonnie and Clyde death car used to be on display there? Also used to go 4 wheeling East of there to explore old Chinese laborer buildings and a couple of very old Boot Hill locations..

+ToyMan *The current Virginia & Truckee has a better steamer than the orginal's* in fleet no. 29, 2-8-0 Baldwin Class 2-8-0-250-3 SerNo 44235, built for the Louisiana and Pacific in 1916 - three years after the original Virginia & Truckee River took delivery of 4-6-0 Baldwin Class 4-6-0-82 SerNo 39453 - and more than powerful enough for current revenue runs. 39453 is on static display (as V&T #27) at the Nevada State RxR Museum, where 4-6-0 Baldwin Class 4-6-0-74 SerNo 25016 (as V&T #25) and 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 8/26-C-78 SerNo 3693 (as V&T #22) are operational. Incidentally, I see the lettering style used for the #22 tender as of this video shoot as correct for #25, #27, and #29, albeit in nickel on black; #22 really needs her tender repainted consistently with "Glenbrook," 2-6-0 Baldwin Class 8/20-D-12 SerNo 3712, and given the historically-correct "V. & T. R. R." lettering in gold leaf.

The Balldwin painting in the time was BEAUTIFUL. Much research has gone into the paint for Glenbrook. Steve even painted it with brushed on led paint.

I believe the Inyo's paint scheme is accurate to its early 1890's appearance. The museum likes to portray different era's to show how things changed over time. Which is kinda cool I think. Notice the sister engine #12 in Sacramento is mostly black, showing an even later representation.

Loved the video. Been a while since I was there. The tracks from CC to VC when I left were a pipe dream. I am sure that they most likely had a repair shop in VC. The main repair shop was in CC. It was very large and was torn down in the 80's I do believe. Please understand that I am recalling this from 30+ years a go, not all will be totally correct but very close. I believe that the main shop was on Stewart St in CC. It was so large, well staffed and capable that Mexico had their engines repaired there. This is what was reported and I can not confirm.

I had a chance to get in it before it was torn down. They saved several of the stone arch’s and door frames to use at the museum but so far they are out in the yard.

Toyman, I have a suggestion for a new place for your next video. I recommend going to Cedar Point which is an amusement park in Sandusky Ohio which I just got back from a few days ago. They have a very nice and interesting steam railroad called the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad (CP&LE RR) which is a 3ft narrow gauge railroad which has a total of 6 engines. 4 operating steam engines, 1 steam engine on display, and a little diesel switcher. Hope you consider it and it's a great theme park as well as railroad.

Great video. But GLENBROOK is actually a 2-6-0, and DAYTON is actually on display in Virginia City. I wish you had time for more details, like the features that the equipment was in, particularly "Union Pacific", the film that 4 V&T locomotives and almost every V&T car at the museum appeared in. I'm helping with an upcoming book that has the latest information and list on the V&T films.

I'd love to rescue the RENO & restore it to run on coal! the McKeen was de-trucked & the body was used as a restaurant & later a plumbing shop so when the building it was built around was about to be demolished the museum got it & restored it During the restoration they found THE actual whistle in the front behind the wood walls!

Hey Toyman I know this video is approx 5 years old but will you please stop identifying steam engines buy the inaccurate description of 6 , 8 and 10 wheelers It's very misleading and to some people including me who grew up in a logging family and these classic engines . Also I've written to several Model RXR magazines in the past about the misleading and sloppy descriptions by some lazy contributing authors that are still getting away with it . Please call them by their correct descriptions 2 - 6 - 0 , 2 - 5 - 0 and so forth . My Nickname is ... Westside Jack WSL PS The Carson City Railroad Museum is not associated or affiliated with the railroad museum Virginia and Truckee . This information was given to me by an employee of the Carson City museum .
