Bazı kelimelerde var. A(a) sesini bazen uzun, bazen ince okutur.

It was a diacritic used in Turkish up until 2010's. The Education ministry dropped it. Big mistake. It creates confusions without it!

And in the word sakın, it is pronounced short 'ah' sound like the prince of "car" But in the word sakin, it is pronunced a long 'ah' sound. Like the pronunciation of "ɑː"
