We have TWO Christmas Categories, one called Christmas Magic - covers the real tree, new lights or inflatable (my husband and daughter have an addiction), wrapping paper, chocolate for the advent calendar house, candy canes for the tree, the annual family decoration, and gingerbread houses to build. The other is the Christmas Surprises Under the Tree for gifts for all and everyone. It is so freeing going into the season knowing all those things are covered.

Oh my gosh, I thought about a chocolate advent calendar this year. We always got them as kids and I can't wait to do one with our little guy! These all sound like such FUN expenses and traditions! Love it!! And I AGREE! I love being able to spend guilt free and know that it's not throwing off any other part of our plan. Quite freeing! 🌻 Hannah

Hannah, don't forget Halloween as your family grows (if you celebrate). Besides candy and decorations you'll want to get costumes by September or it's slim pickings. I've learned from my procrastination.

Good to know! Our little guy was around for Halloween this year and we just bought him a little ghost patterned sleeper and called it a day 😂 I feel like we have one more year of him not caring before it's time to up the Halloween savings 🙃 🌻 Hannah

Yup! I pay $400/year for H & R Block to do my taxes for me. I absolutely love the peace of mind and ease. Lmao 😂 a million times worth it and I know they get me money that I would miss because I don't know what I'm doing.

We've had some internal convos about that lately here at YNAB! Our life has been pretty simple this past year (just added one kiddo!), so we can get away with using something like FreeTaxUSA. But other coworkers added multiple kids, lived in multiple states, sold and bought houses, ran their own businesses-they SWEAR by hiring the tax professional for peace of mind more than anything! 🌻 Hannah

I have a grandson activity category. This weekend I’m taking them to a Lego event. if I take them to a random movie any Saturday or pick them up from school and take them for donuts. I have the money set aside to do it.

I'll have to share this idea with my mom if she doesn't already do it! She has 12 grandkids (15 by this summer!), and likes to do special outings with them for their birthdays. As you can imagine, that adds up FAST. Another category just for fun, spontaneous outings would be so fun! 🌻 Hannah

My husbands as well! Me, not so much. This year we agreed on buying a 10pk of tiny 16-inch skeleton figurines to hide all about the porch and it was SO CUTE. We also strung some purple and orange lights, which I can get behind. I'm more of a Casper the Friendly Ghost vibes kinda person 😂 Cute, not scary. 🌻 Hannah

Right now I have all my holidays and gifting in one category called Celebrate, but it’s a great idea to break them out!

Love the Holiday Shenanigans name! We have categories for each holiday separate but I would like to combine them to simplify things. For Christmas we also plan for cards and postage - this adds up! We keep it separate from our gifting category. We also plan for a nice meal around Easter and Christmas this way if we decide to go to a brunch, we don’t have to stress taking it out of our weekend money. We know we can plan for a splurge type of meal.

That is smart! We got so many Christmas cards this year and I thought "wow, that is really a whole expense, isn't it?" Would be VERY smart to have a category to pay for those cards and stamps, and potentially even a photography if you like to hire out for those photos! 🌻 Hannah

Genuinely gobsmacked. Makes much more sense than a general gift pool. With that method, if you spend too much on one person, then you have little left over for the other. However, this video's method negates all that.

HA! Great question! A lot of the time I make dummy budgets to demonstrate different concepts in my videos. I wanted to keep this budget super clean for demo purposes, so I dropped $20k in the checking account, but you'll notice I only assigned a little over $200 of those dollars to the different holiday categories. The other $19k+ I just moved into that category to literally get it out of the way of my demonstration and not raise more questions (though it appeared to still do that 😂 ) 🌻 Hannah

Oh, peanut for sure arrived! KZfaq World lags a few months behind Real World, so he's actually quite a bit older than you'd probably think! Main nicknames include Mr Man, Big Boy, Cheeks, and Brother (despite the fact that he has no siblings, just Julep 🙃). Oh, and Knucklehead. You can imagine that one comes into play quite often 😂 🌻 Hannah
