Great beautiful video, it feels like walking in that neighborhood. I am a student of Jewish language and culture and these videos teach many things about daily life: the shop signs (which I copied almost all of them and then translated), the clothing of the Orthodox, the noises, the daily life of Me'a Sha'rim. I would like to see more of them, even in modern Jerusalem. Thanks so much for sharing.

A wonderful video of people who haven't changed much over time. No cell phones in hand. Plastered news papers on the wall for the community to read. Last September while in Jerusalem I spent a pleasant morning exploring Mea Shearim. I was told and read in guides that people with cameras are not welcome in the area. In fact many of the younger men can get hostile having cameras pointed at them. I noticed posters on several walls stating that tourist groups are not welcome, the area was being treated as if it was a zoo. Bearing that in mind and out of respect, I left my both my camera and my phone in my backpack. I guess you were lucky and got away without incident.

Only certain sects. But all Torah observant Jews/Orthodox wear clothing that is tsniut/modest. We don’t show a lot of skin like the rest of the world and married women cover their hair and only let their husbands see their crown of glory (and sons and fathers). Nice way to live and my family and I used to me less observant…more secular. This is a huge step above the fray!!!

This is the most unusual place in Israel. Thanks to these people, an incredible vibe is created in Israel, as if you traveled back 1000 years. Like a time machine.😂 The first time I saw an ultra-Orthodox man in a fur hat and robe near the Western Wall. I couldn't believe my eyes, he looked like he came out of a joke or a cartoon. In Russia, there are no Jews like that, no such clothing. We mostly have Chabad here. In Chabad, there is no tradition of dressing like that, Jews look quite ordinary. So I was shocked. I would like to photograph them, I went to this area in 2012 with my husband, during our visit to Israel. They made me dress "modestly," I had to buy a shawl there. They don't allow photography. They swarm in crowds and start preaching. Of course, I am afraid of them, but it's so unusual and such top content could be captured!!!! Love this idea. How can one think you are a Jewish woman when looking at these people? A secular Jewish woman. Not at all connected to the tradition and culture of Judaism.
