I just watched a tribute show to Les Paul that featured Steve Lukather , Neal Schonne, Buddy Guy , Kill Switch, and Joe Satriani. Joe was rocking what looked to be a melody maker going by the pickguard and P90s . I knew he could rock guitar no matter what but he just brought my appreciation of his style and music to a whole new level.

Nice to see Guitar Village featured, certainly my favourite guitar shop, fabulous place in an amazing 15th century building. Been there a number of times and bought a few Gibsons from them over the years. Was there only a couple of weeks ago and saw that Yamano gold top hanging on the wall. Looked nice. They've even got a 1920s L-3 with the most enormous neck I've ever felt!

I had a closer look at the timber and you were right, it’s mahogany, the centre piece, definitely but I can see how someone might have thought it was korina. Really the four piece thing gives it away and I don’t think Gibson have ever mixed woods even though it was once a solid colour. Nice one Austin. 👍🏻

Hey trogly, not sure if anyone's messaged you about this yet: Guitar Center just listed a run of Les Paul Standard 60s quilt tops in dark purple burst yesterday. There's a chance to maybe get the color at a discount now if someone was looking for it as long as they don't mind quilted maple instead of the flame maple.

Trogly, Nice Find! However, the last thing Gibson wanted was for Yamano to "Send guitars back". Discounts would have been applied to the problematic guitars and kept over in Japan. Returns would have been too expensive.

Even with changing the geography settings, I’m seeing a lot of guitars I’m interested in on Ebây located in Japan. Correct guitars for me, most are tough to find in the USA, the vendors do fantastic evaluation writing & photography, but that shipping cost--its Japan: it’s far !! Shipping has GOT to be significant 😳

why? it proves nothing but those two guitars have different pickups in them? it would not prove anything about any two other guitars

Austin, The 1983 Korina Explorer that you featured was NOT an original 1983 Korina Explorer, The seller is claiming it was originally Ebony then stripped to a Natural finish which is a crazy thing to do as you have lost serious value as the Colored finished Korina Explorers from 81-83 are much more valuable than the Natural finish and you could get a Heritage Explorer for a better price.The 1983 Korina Explorer didn't come with Dirty Fingers pickups as they came with "Covered" Humbuckers most likely Tim Shaws or PAF varity. They also came stock with "Gold" Knobs and Hardware and a "Stamped" serial number not inked. The Heritage and The 1983 Korina Explorers were either 1 or 2 piece bodies not 3 and 1 piece necks. I would pass at this example because you will never be able to resell and get your money back due to the many originality issues. Buyer beware, there are much better examples out there if you are looking for a early 80s Korina Explorer. Vintage Guitar Magazine will tell you that you lose up to 50% value when you refinish and change the original color on some Gibson models, take out the original pickups and knobs and you have destroyed the value of the guitar and it's nothing more than a "project" or a players grade guitar and no where near worth the $5,000 asking price. You might get half that if the market is right but I really doubt it. NEVER MOD a vintage Gibson unless you plan on keeping it forever and if you do Mad it then KEEP ALL original parts so it can be made original again and NEVER refinish a Gibson guitar, if you don't like the color then sell it to someone who likes it and buy the color you want. It makes NO sense to mess with vintage stringed insruments as they will only get more valuable if left original. I hope that helps!

I thought the current Epiphone Vs and Explorers were Mahogany and not Korina because it look so much like Mahogany, but it's Korina. 12:33 the overall grain looks like a bit of a mix but there are spots that are classic Korina (the little figure on the top rear horn, the area near the tailpiece and tone/volume knobs), the end grain looks A LOT like Korina though, but it's just 3 pieces.

nice video with some nice guitars for sure. im not fond of the gold tops at all. i have a les paul special in tv yellow with the wrap tail and p90s. im not to fond it to be honest. gold tops have no character to me. thanks for the video. interesting

Sometimes I don't get it swapping out the nut. Seems to fit the coloration but just 'that' millimeter on each side why wouldn't a person contour a bit more closely... oh well.

I wonder if the 'AG' in the model name was a mistake. In the periodic table of elements, Au is good and Ag is silver. Maybe someone put it in the model name but had the letters wrong?

Uhm, not enough strings. no acoustic chamber. Nahp. I'm going with a fretless DIY Bass/Hellraiser/Chapman stick/Warr guitar sort of hybrid thing that also does percussion, with custom piezoelectric pickups and such that I can also easily tweak and yeah... But that's merely coz I'm a lunatic. And have a good day. I was thinking of making the "fretless board" out of tungsten carbide silicene (but that's expensive, so I'll probably go with a stainless steel plate or some hard wood, coz the tension is gonna be kinda heavy), and then like hexagonal/honeycomb configured sort of chamber/cabinet holes. I'm sorry but, there's absolutely no way that thing is worth buying.
