This seems like a legit pro tip, thank you! I STRONGLY dislike having to change gems.

Gem Resists and Fortify are in the same damage reduction calculation bucket, and it caps at 50%. Assuming you have fortify from Orb of Protection and Fortifying Sacred Ground, it is very easy to WAY over cap elemental resists. But yea, I've been swapping amulets for months. I 100% approve this message. Wish more PUG groups understood basic math.

To add to this for those running hatchet/spear. Scorpion stone (farmable) is BIS for fire. Tempest drops the myrk amulets that have empowered/health so if you farm them eventually you'll could find BIS protection/health/empowered amulets for all 4 but until then scorpion stone, oculus glass (from brimstone chests) gives void protection and health free. And as he said you can buy or craft protection/health amulet for cheap. I run all punishing rune glass in my ward armor and protection/health amulets with mutation gems clear m10s in light 5con.

Yeah not only does this make runeglass a possibility but it also gives you some extra resistance to other types of damage... like in starstone this week we've had a few go down to the void from the mages.

what about the 600gs eq we get for the winter event that has elemental aversion + corrupted ward, do u just slot onyx into that since it alrdy has the elemental dmg reduction?

I am a healer, currently have my corrupted set done and run Diamonds in them. Would you recommend switching to Opals for gear as healer as well? Definitely doing the amulet thing!

Wait, I've been doing malachite's in my armour is that not the better way ? I am a healer and always bring the protection gem but only for my amulet which has the protection perk too.

Our team does similar but we slot onyx in armor and mutation specific elemental resistance for jewelry comes to 28% specific elemental resistance and 10% all physical resistance

im not sure how i feel about having such low physical resist in mutators. but currently what i do is the amulet with protection and then 2 gems of whatever the mutation requires. add that to a mix of onyx, diamond and malachite I end up with about the same elemental resist but with closer to 10 physical resist or higher.

I have been doing this for a little while now and it is very useful. I also run a two specific gems in my feet sand legs, and where my gear uses a say a Simon grid head and chest. I have been bit by bit getting extra pieces and putting specifc gems in them. Averaging about 36 to 40% per set. It does help that i am a healer.

As a tank, I'm still running more than 40% resistance for the particular type.. For a dps yes, you can run away and heal up with potions and healer can save you, but as a tank having that resistance is quite essential, imo.

im just getting to the point of doing mutations, is it not better to use malachite in armour for both resistances?

People forget that fortify caps at 50% and mostly builds have at least 10% from perks, plus healer add a ton of fortify too. Opal + amulet is enough for most weapons.

From what I have heard not sure I completely agree. Having more than 25% elemental resis is not overkill. I think it would be useful to use both the amulet and the gems. if your standing in sacred groud all the time your chilling, but otherwise every 1% elemental resis is like .5% ward. 30% min but having 50% isnt bad. having like 25-28% would be harder on specific dungeons m10s and mutations. Maybe do a mix like you can keep 3 pieces with opal always or something.

Thanks, i ll try this. Also with the sword and shield tree you get more 10% elemental resistance from a passive skill. Therefor one could bring 3-4 onyx for more physical resistance in the mix.

I run light 5 con in m10s & around %58 elemental resistance & sometimes that’s not enough. Especially on ice mutations with the frost bite. It’s definitely possible to run full onyx or opals but I feel like you would need a really good healer.

OR just stock up on those gems on late weekend, where prices mostly goes down a lot. OR just buy cut brilliant instead of pristine. we can be creative about it.

I prefer this method . If u need more then 30 to 40 percent resist you probably just left clicking . I been in groups that have that amount of resist and still die because they just refuse to dodge from taking the elemental damage especially the void burst. 3 people stacking on the same spot and eating all that burst from each dps because who cares about mechanic . Healer gets blamed when this happens . I want to live in a world where opal is viable . Lol

I like this because I could consider putting runeglass gems in now. You lose some %, so it would take you down to around 26%? Probably worth it for, say, 5% lifesteal. Thoughts?

I really like this strategy. I wonder if it works with runeglass as well, since we would lose a bit more res. Might be worth to try out I guess. I like having my pve sets for both mutations and open world as well, so this is perfect advice. Thank you for sharing!

Hey! Quick question, the flawed cut gemstones give the same (%) protection as the pristine opal but it's for a specific type, so amethyst for void, aquamarine for ice etc... the tier 3 gemstones give 1% more than the opal and they are cheap, every dungeon you will make (more than) the money back and be more protected. Even tho you need to swap them every week, do you think it's not worth it? Also leaves you the option of slotting some other gemstones like onyx or even diamond...

Anyone know if this is still good?

I am playing with 5-20 con and its not worth to run with 30% res if you do m10. Some of them are easy but certain mods will destroy you unless you have tons of extra life. Its nothing crazy that you change ammulet for each mutation (you can farm great from tempest: health empowered+ random perk(in this case certain resistance) if legendary, and it would be bis for most pve builds. So in one way you save a lot of money almost 1 hour of gathering for gold but at the same time bck you run less res you need more hp and you lose way more time bck you have less dmg, and bck mobs dies slower you have more oportunities to get hit by some savage hits. So your advice is to switch amulet but its already a part of switching gems for each mutation.

I have myrkgard amulets for every type and jewel. Legate's rings with every type of jewel. If I use drop gear, I have multiples with different jewels like Isabella's pants. But I still go for 40%+ resistance so I can go 50 con or less. Your suggestion make sense when I saw your con at 134. But I like to go faster

why not slot t4 gems, they are dirt cheap and u get more mitigation than elemental gems :D (1% loss per gem)

TDIL: 28% vs 58% is a very minimal mitigation difference.

i think this could work for builds that use medium/higher con but for low con/5 con builds it really helps getting all the resistance you can get. i just buy the t4 gems and use them since they are usually a couple 100 gold cheaper and i only get 5% less resistence

OMG you got 5℅ resistent with brilliant gem and it cost 50 Gold per gem and u have I total double resistant and it cost total 250 gold. I saw people go with that 2,5℅ resistance gem last week on tempest and they just got 2 max 3 hit on circle. That's the bad ideas ever. Just swap the gem man it cost only 250 gold per week. People do this if both corruption dungeon pop up like tempest and depths and the skilled from them is rare

Simple, just craft armor sets for each gem, example: right now there are 4 different mutation elemental damage types: Nature, void, fire, ice. So you will need 4 sets of Corruption ward armor with dedicated gems in them, (would be better to use runeglass at this point).

A was whining out loud in chat yesterday about farming. He was all about how hard it is to farm and how boring and he said MOST of the don't want to play a game to farm :D I told him this is an mmorpg and MOST people do enjoy it. And later it turned out that the guy was swapping runeglass gems for mutations. I told him nobody does that because it makes no sense and the conversation pretty much ended here because he thought what he does is the way :D

I'm hesitant to suggest this to my team as we already struggle w full gems lol. This sounds great for gamers that aren't in their 50s 60s and 70s hah. But we are having a great time in the expeditions:) thanks for all the content.

Or hear me out get the amulet plus gems I'm gear and get like 45 %nature protection. Then rub ward pits with ward gear and get like 40% on that side too

I think full Opal set is not good cuz you still need some physical resistance. I also agree switching gems is bad. That's why there are only 2 way you can go imo; 1st Make a Set for every possible scenario, it'll take time but when you prepared for all possible mutations and dungeons It'll be sooo much easier but this is the grindy way. 2nd Less grindy but bit more challenging way is ; Put only 1 gem on your set that gives you resistance to the certain mutation. And put that one on your earring. So you only gonna change 1 gem for each mutation its cheaper. Then put Malachites to your other 2 jewelry. Then put 1 malachite and 1 diamond to your gear set. Then you'll have 3 set w/o any gem. And put Opals on those 3. imo This is the most well rounded gem set for almost any PvE content imo.

I would not recommend this. If you need to save money on mutation runs (e.g. on fresh servers) use T4 gems. I think what is more important is that elemental protection amulets are the way to go for M10s. If you're running any sub 100 con light DPS you'll want above 40% resistance.

I'm a jewel crafter and I find this video offensive.

I used to sell m10 orbs for 80k gold each, and didnt have any fkin ward gear just +- 100con dps stop making pve hard its easiest pve-wise mmorpg ever made its joke for handicaped ppl. also nobody fkin cares about your 5con, when u can have 100 and deal 5% less dmg and never die 1min wont save world especialy in mmorpgs
