I saw INXS two times. The last was in the pouring rain downtown Cleveland, the kind of rain we call gully washers. There were maybe 100 brave souls who braved the elements. INXS was freaking awesome. Michael Hutchence walked through the sparse crowd while taking his clothes off. He was barefoot, no shirt and singing his heart out. We begged and pleaded for them to play Suicide Blonde. They ended the show with that song. It’s one of my most precious concert memories. How lucky we were to see INXS.

He was one of the best and yet is never on the lists of top frontmen yet people like Kurt Cobain are listed who is more of a lead singer not a frontman and certainly not a performer I see someone like Freddie Mercury as the showman who commands the audience whereas Michael was the frontman who connected with his audience

I think you’ll appreciate the orchestral majesty of this song. After his tragic death in 1997, this song was played at the funeral of lead singer Michael Hutchence, as his coffin was carried out of St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney, Australia by the remaining band members, with 2000 people in attendance.

INXS is extremely underrated. They were huge in the 80s for a time and michael hutchence was such a charismatic and amazing frontman. Such a shame that he died so young.

Spot on. His name hardly ever comes up when people talk about brilliant artists who died way too young. He was a legitimately elite rock tenor. Which is so rare. His voice was so uniquely textured. It brought a completely different vibe when compared to any of his contemporary rock vocalists. I read an interview of Bono a few years ago. He and Michael were really good friends(U2 posthumously wrote Stuck in a Moment about him). He said U2 and INXS were beginning a collaboration when he died. Would love to have seen where that went.

True story...about 20 years ago, my band Flow was playing at a club in Phuket, Thailand. We used to do a bluesy, 60's Soul version of "Never Tear Us Apart"...guitar heavy, no keys or sax, lots of harmonies. So we're playing the intro to the song...instead of keys it's guitar arpeggios with Oooooh. Oooooh harmonies...unrecognizable. As soon as I launch into the lyrics, this big guy sitting at a table in the back stands up like he finally recognizes the song....stands there, grooving at his table, dancing in place all through the tune until the end and then gives us a big ovation and sits down. A little bit later the waitress brings us a round of drinks from this guy. We thanked him and kept on playing. We used to do a four hour show with no breaks, so at some point I guess he left....I didn't notice. After our set the club manager asked us if we knew who that guy was? No. Who?....the drummer from INXS.

When Alex told Andy to imagine himself as a 1987 high school girl and INSTANTLY had "Denise!" ready as his girl-name, I thought "hmmm.... maybe someone has already imagined this particular scenario....." I'm very partial to INXS's early stuff. From Shaoo Shoobah: The One Thing, Spy of Love, Soul Mistake, Black and White, and, of course Don't Change From the Swing: Original Sin, I Send A Message, Burn For You From Listen Like Thieves: What You Need, Listen Like Thieves, Kiss the Dirt, Shine Like It does, This Time I saw them live during their Kick tour. They definitely knew how to play to the crowd. Hutchence doing his slither on the stage, and the rest of the band striking dramatic rock star poses. Great show!

@@Historian212my instinct thought so but the definition does seem to vary in some places, and I don't want to search the term too much for obvious reasons ! But, to get back to my original point, I thought his death was not suicide as he was attempting an asphyxi wank not to end his life.

INXS were so, so good. I listened to Kick constantly when I was 16, and the very first note takes me straight back there.

IMO their two best songs are The One Thing and Don’t Change.

INXS....great 80's beats. Do 'The One Thing" next and rock your socks off. Also 'Suicide Blonde', 'The Swing', 'New Sensation', 'What You Need', 'Don't Change', 'Melting In The Sun', 'Dancing On The Jetty', 'Stay Young' are all great tracks.

I wasn't a fan when this album came out, but it was massive. Later I came to appreciate INXS, and quite honestly, every single track on this album is absolutely amazing...

The best INXS song in my opinion is Don’t Change. It’s a song that they for years used to close their concerts.

Love, love, love INXS! I've been listening to them since the 1982 album Shabooh Shoobah. Y'all need to hear "The One Thing" and "Don't Change." I finally got to see them live a month before Michael Hutchence passed. It was a great concert.

Has to be the best ballad ever written. So simple, but so effective. Many have tried to cover it but Michael is the only one who can do it perfectly. Joe Cocker did an ok effort.

This is a great song. The music video (and probably some longer record version that I haven’t found) has a longer instrumental section at the beginning, and the buildup of that is phenomenal.

INXS owned the radio when they broke out. This album is nothing but bangers from to back. Other 4 letter band greats would be Rush, Abba, ACDC, Kiss, etc.

First time I saw then was on Countdown performing Don’t Change. Great band. Michael combined Jim Morrison brooding with Mick Jagger swagger and Freddie Mercury talent for a charismatic and charming delivery all his own. Iconic front man.

For upbeat bangers, try “What You Need” or “Suicide Blonde”. Watch the live from Wembley. Incredible energy. Michael Hutchinson was one of the best frontmen of that time…. Right up there with Bono and Coverdale.

You keep opening that rabbit hole of Australian Rock Music with another Aussie banger.. the 80's Pub rock scene was huge. INXS grew out of that late 70's and early 80's grind of touring random pubs up and down the east coast of the country. Devil inside, Suicide Blonde and Need you tonight. Massive.
