Gorgeous execution of a brilliant idea! I was really glad that you left the plywood “edges” exposed and did not paint the chair. Years ago I followed Jeremy Broun and his wonderful outlook on building with plywood and leaving the edge exposed, highlighting the beauty of the layers as a design element. Thank you for sharing!

Agreed. Now, it does take a nice piece of A-A grade, veneer core, cabinet plywood to do it, but it's obviously worth the effort.

Fantastic work. It's always nice to see a skilled wood worker using a riving knife and respecting the table saw. I saw a lot of safety in your video. If more experienced and skilled youtube creators (like you) showed that level of safety and respect, fewer beginner wood workers (like me) would for bad habits. I don't have a table saw yet, but I am concerned with safety in a major way. Kudos!

I'm not so sure. Watch it open a few times. The part that becomes the front legs or the part that becomes the back legs have to move apart from each other for it to fold flat. When he raises it, you can see the front leg portion drag in the sand, moving closer to the back legs in order to fold into a chair. Once sitting, those are both near vertical and have weight on them. If you learned back, either the front legs would have to slide forward, or the whole back (where most of the weight is) would have to slide back to pivot. Neither of those will want to happen as the legs are dug in. Now, if you set this up on ice, I think what we're all wondering would happen, but not with friction at play.
@twotone3070
@twotone3070 3 жыл бұрын
I watched it again and it's the friction against the surface it is placed on that prevents it from closing, very clever indeed.

Pretty cool .. I like the fast motion (just the right speed). I kept wondering 'What is he making?' Such a neat idea .. love the patterns produced by cutting the plywood.

That was really amazing. Just one question. Isn’t it necessary to pass the glued up plywood board through the planer? Did you use some trick to make sure the board would come out flat?
