Pretty cool method. If the remaining laces are long enough, you can hide them underneath the insole too, which works pretty well.

The prince and the pea here, but I can't deal with having the laces under / on / beside my foot inside the shoe. I'll have to think of a way to get rid of the excess keep without flopping around or showing, etc. Suppose I could cut off the excess but I'd rather keep my options open and not destroy my new laces.

I see there are 8 sets of eyelets in your example. how does this work with an odd number of eyelet sets?

I'm very confused are you going under the main lace going across? I keep getting laces crossed the wrong way

In general do you lace the other shoe exactly like the first one or a mirror image of it? Say for instance right over left on one and left over right on the other or both right over left for over/under.
