For the sake of science and posterity, I watched the video back at half speed and transcribed Claire's rant about sweaty food shopping: "People are prepared to be outside in cold weather, so why you gotta blast the heat, y'know, inside the buildings where everybody's got jackets, and I'm doing my fucking grocery shopping and I gotta carry my things and then it's so hot I'm getting these like hot flashes." I think we can all agree the rest of the video is mere fluff surrounding this wisdom.

Ooh yeah, I may just be ignorant to the bands that influenced Opeth but I always felt like their more technical heavy riffs have a really unique style and vocabulary - those are the most interesting 4LODM eps, when you can't guess who would find the riffs easier Also Opeth just kick ass generally

Yeah but are they trying to play it how the artist does? Imo they aren't. They are figuring out said notes and playing it upon their own interpretation, e.g. Dean is playing an 8 string in standard so its always a different position. Ok, not always but 98% of the time I bet. Doing things this way allows one to be more creative and really explore and know your fretboard, just saying guys. Think about it lol #facts

5:00 I think that when they do that scrape across the muted strings, they angle the pick sideways, so they don't pick the strings but slide the side of the pick across them. That way you get more of that harmonic part into the scrapiness

I saw the title and I knew the main man shadow mantra Steve was gonna be involved, that man is indeed the Gojira guru. Also Gojira is my favourite band so yeah this video is pretty much early Christmas. Props on thinking about the tapped harmonics on Magma btw, even though the original does use pinches the taps sounded really close.

And now I'm cranking my amp to play some Gojira riffs. They are a lot of fun to play. Not super technical in terms of speed and accuracy, but they play with rhythm and groove in a unique way. Please do Beyond Creation next. Another amazing Canadian tech death band. Love these guys!
