I bought Nevermind on cassette right when it came out. I always thought "Something In The Way" was the hidden track, because there was a long pause right before it. Did anyone else's cassette not have any music after "Something In The Way?
@TerminalSaint
@TerminalSaint 6 жыл бұрын
According to Loudwire: The hidden track ‘Endless Nameless’ was mistakenly left off the first 50,000 copies The track, which starts several minutes after the conclusion of 'Something in the Way,' was an improvised noise jam captured when the engineer kept the tape running after a botched attempt at recording 'Lithium.' An error at the pressing plant caused the omission.

Who will be the next great rock band that'll change everything? Nirvana was, arguably, the last band to do it. When Nirvana hit in 1991, they single-handedly took out Los Angeles cock rock and terrible corporate pop music in one swipe. It was an amazing breath of fresh air. Terrible pop music didn't recover until 2000ish with the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. It's 2016 and there still isn't a really great rock n' roll movement that celebrates independent, underground rock.

Very VERY good question. I don't think it will happen for a very very long time. With the way media is today, everything is "instant" and obsessive until the next thing comes along say, a few weeks later. It seems nothing really has a long lasting impact in today's world. We can only hope there comes a new platform and with it, a new band that transforms today's terrible, "popular" music.

my man for what its worth, I'm really really trying to get my band started. All I do is write grunge riffs and half ass songs. if I can find a drummer and bassist to realize my vision then I might not be able to change the face of music but I will contribute to the lost rock movement, it is still alive

Was in 8th grade when this thing dropped. I was into stuff like Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth at the time, along with all of the classic rock stuff. So this thing came along at the exact right time for me. The whole grunge thing was basically marketed directly at my age group. Listening to it now (well the songs that haven't been totally worn out) I can't help but wonder why it was as giant as it became and why it's achieved it's legendary status, a sentiment I'm sure Kurt would echo. It's really good pop punk. Kurt could write a hook that's for sure. I think it was just the right album and the right band at the exact right moment. I love Kurt's voice as the whole "dirty vs clean" vocals deal I land on dirty, but he's not a particularly talented vocalist. He's also not a particularly talented guitar player, although it may have to do with the style of music and the eschewing of long, boring, noodling guitar solos than of his actual ability. The song structure isn't anything special either, it's the Beatles meet (insert punk band here). Like I said, I think it was just different enough and the industry seized on the fact that they needed a new sound to sell as the whole hair metal/glam thing had been played out by that point. Again I think Kurt was pretty confused about it himself. I don't think he wanted to be what the industry made him out to be. I think he wanted to be where music like this belongs, just on the edge of household name but never #1 on the Billboard. I shed a few tears when I heard he died over the radio and I was about as big a fan as they came back then, but looking back I can't help but think Nirvana wasn't ever supposed to be where they ended up.

He's not technically correct about Something in the Way. Vig did not 'convince' Cobain to to record this way.They were not getting the sound they wanted, and Vig asked Cobain how he wanted it to sound like. Cobain - with guitar in-hand - played the song in the control room and that's when Vig asked him to stop so he could put speakers in the control room. This is why the song is so quiet and you can hear every texture, strum and nuanced speech from Cobain; Vig dampened very other sound.

The production of Nevermind does sound a bit "slick" and almost synthy, the 80s were still refusing to die. If you want proof of what Kurt WANTED - listen to the production on In Utero. The raw yet close sound of the guitar strings on "heart shaped box" undistorted, then crashed against the chorus were a revelation to me at age 13. Having digested Nevermind completely, In Utero truly seemed like what they SHOULD have been sounding like the whole time.

I hate anti-capitalists. They claim to "hate capitalism", yet they love making money, which is the point of capitalism. Kurt Cobain and the rest of Nirvana, as well as other anti-capitalist musicians/bands like the garbage RAtM, are huge tools because of this. I can respect Nirvana for their musical talents (RAtM have none), but that's all I have respect for. If you're in a position or business to make money, maybe you shouldn't decry the system that allows you to get rich through your own merits and hard work. Just sayin'.

I'd still rather famous people use their platform to spread an anti-capitalist message then the majority of famous people who willingly join in on the all-american pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps narrative.

Your logic is fucking retarded. You’re a critique of capitalism? Haha, do you own things?
