NEVER TOO SMALL

NEVER TOO SMALL

3 жыл бұрын

Set on the 31st floor of a modern high rise, Desmond Wong meticulously designed his apartment to feel like a sanctuary amidst the bustling sounds of Hong Kong. A neutral palette, sheer curtains and raised furniture create a sense of lightness; along with arched doorways that soften the edges and bring a harmonious feeling to the space. The clever use of textured wallpaper in a similar colour to the walls introduces a sense of earthiness in the space and full length patina mirrors on the wardrobe doors soften the reflective light from the buildings outside.

By many international standards, 52 m² are not small. And when you keep in mind a part of Hong Kong's population lives in closets and cages (do your research if you don't believe me), you can call this apartment a mansion. That said, it is a nice interior.

@@hillary2480 I’m also a hker but I found my experience quite different from yours, I do reckon there are quite a bit of subdivided flats however in my own experience I’ve never met anyone who actually live in them. All my classmates from school, friends from work or people I know live in small flats but no where as small as a subdivided flat or cage homes. Those homes are common in the sense of no other country have them, but as a comment pointed out it’s only 3% of the housing in hk, the majority are just overly expensive tiny flats. I believe there’s a misconception of everyone in hk lives in cage homes or subdivided flats which is not true.

I am in LOVE with the arched doorways, and the green tile + bronze fittings in the bathroom are so beautiful. A lot of comments have already said this but he succeeded so well in his mission to create a calm space - it's such a soothing palette, layout, design, and textural space. I don't think we got the full effect of the texture wallpaper on the storage doors in the living room but I can imagine how much warmth and interest they add without making the space busy or crowded with color. The arched doorways are just genius, bringing in a real old European alleys/Greek Mediterranean vibe into a modern space. So awesome - one of my fave episodes so far on NTS!

Love the tranquility of the space. By the way the store/ cafe in 1:03 has a beautiful facade with the curved window and the colors.

My absolute favorite episode yet. "Home is a manifestation of one's habits and needs. It is important to examine how you live; what works and doesn't work for you before the design process..." -- this feels like a perfect NTS summary and such an inspiring quote. Desmond Wong, incredible and amazing work. I have nothing but admiration for you! When will you design something else? I want to see!

Wow! The design fits this channel “s name perfectly. When the ideology and design applied effectively, small place looks spacious and comfortable. You don’t feel it “s too small to live in. I love to stay in this unit, even though it is just 500 sf. Love it ❤️ 😍

Love the warm yet light colour scheme! Its a very welcoming and cosy vibe. The design of the layout is also very practical for daily living. Despite such a small space, its very liveable.
