Andy, I recently changed my RT for a V4S, recently the heated grip operation has changed and you can cycle through the levels by keep pressing the button. Another change on the latest update is for those of a shorter inside leg, there is an option to press the suspension button for a few seconds and the bike lowers, it automatically goes back to normal setting when a pre-set speed is reached, ideal for urban riding.

Andy, I own a ‘19 1260s and finding neutral was tough when the bike was new. My Ducati shop mechanic suggested I use engine braking down through the gears as much as possible during the break-in process. It worked. Neutral became much easier to find after that. Today, with 8,500 miles on the clock, finding neutral is super easy.

Well done for mentioning the relatively weak lower rev power, it's the first review that's mentioned it. It explains why the reviewers are often in 4th at 50 - 60. Why is maximum power 500 rpm into the redline ? so is the rev limit at 11k revs ? and if so, why start the redline at 10k !!! Bikes in the late teens are too hard to justify for me at least.......Great review 👍

Great review 👌 my main issue with it is the fuel consumption 😡 for a bike for touring in the main, just over 30mpg compared to the over 60mpg that I get on my r1250rs is really unacceptable, especially with fuel prices going the way they are 🏍🏍

I've literally owned every Multi since they first came out. I just love them. BUT, I did stray for a while last year with a new GS1250 Rallye. Great bike. Very functional, practical. But I just couldn't get over the lack of soul. But thats just me. And yes, I did jump into a new V4S Multi 🙂
@BibtheBoulder

Excellent comment. I have always felt most BMW's lack soul, and I buy with my heart, not usually my head. Nonetheless the fuel economy is horrendous for a touring based bike. Unless off-road is planned then I think the Kawasaki Versys 1000 is the bike to go for....

@@paulvanhout9695 honestly, in 20+ years of Ducati ownership I’ve had very few issues. I had an issue with my 950 Multi when i first bought it. But Ducati took care is immediately. And i trash the hell out of my Pani V4 on the track, with no probs. I think the DesertX is going to be bulletproof. That v-twin engine is very proven. Good luck!

Bought one back in early November, and immediately fell in love with it. After putting almost 4000 miles on it since I still love riding it. The best overall motorcycle I've ever owned or even ridden. Hands down. However, it's not without minor faults...some correctable...some not. First, my ass is getting fidgety after a couple of hours in the saddle. A more comfortable seat is in the future. Second, the gas cap requires the key to open it. Silly, on a vehicle with a "keyless" proximity fob. Third, the mirrors have noticeable vibration at 70 mph (is that a cop back there? Can't tell...). Fourth, the fuel range is not what a "sports tourer" should have. Even though the range number on the dash usually claims 220+ miles right after a fill-up, I'm lucky if I get more than 170 miles out of a tank. Even if I take it real easy on the throttle. A bike like this should get 200+ out of a tank, in my opinion. FYI, the need to fidget with buttons on both sides to activate the heated grips is corrected in the latest software update, which is nice. Finding neutral: never have a problem with that on mine. My Google Pixel 6 Pro doesn't fit in the cubby either, but I really don't care. I always prefer my phone to be mounted out in front of me. I would not put it in the cubby even if it did fit. A fantastic bike overall. SO MUCH FUN to ride, and that's the most important bit of info, right?

Range anxiety is a real buzz kill on an adventure bile. I had that on a 2005 BMW R1200GS that I could get about 180 miles before looking for fuel. I bought the R1250 GS Adventure and it outlasts my bladder by a long way. I have the Quadlock wireless charger with the vibration dampener and so far so good. Not sure the best way to mount it with the way the handlebar clamp covers the center but I’m sure you can find another spot to your liking.
@SanDiegoDude619
@SanDiegoDude619 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMissendenFlyer We wouldn't accuse you of cheating...we can see that you actually do your own homework by riding the bikes extensively! I've heard that about the iPhone camera being vibration-sensitive. Apparently, the Pixel cameras may not be. For years I've been mounting my Pixel phones to my previous bike, a Yamaha V-Star 1100, and that had much more vibration in the handlebars. So far so good. Looking forward to the rest of your review of the Multi!

@@PapaDougsAdventures01 I mount my phone off to the right side of the handlebar so it intentionally obscures my view of the large urine-sample container (a.k.a front brake fluid reservoir). I will soon be mounting a Garmin to the left side to hide the small pee-container. 😉

I refer you back to my last post - (s1000rr v your panegale) the MS v4s is the best of both worlds - I knew you’d like it, and definately a more involving bike than the 1250GS. Expensive though, but beautiful and exquisitely finished. Looking fwd to another vid of you on this, once you’ve had chance to wind it up and explore its power and handling. Blows the GS into the weeds as a bike for all seasons, touring and fast sporty riding. The heated seats are comfier too. Swap your GS and your Panegale- voila ! 2 bikes in one !

The latest software update toggles the grips just using the dedicated button, without having to go through the TFT dash. And it also introduces an option to minimize the rear preload around town at the touch of a button, so that you can get your feet down more easily (handy for you/shorter riders). Neutral shouldn't be a problem, but the engine vibration and gear shift significantly improved on mine once I'd covered 2-3,000 miles. After pulling the pannier release, if you then push the lids inwards (as though you were closing them), they then release immediately (technique, not design flaw). Ducati is considering moving to CarPlay. I sold my GS for one. 5k later... no regrets. 😀

Having test ridden this bike I have to say it's an amazing bit of kit. Can't agree that it 'doesn't have any poke' as I found it outrageously quick for such a big bike!?! Has every bit of tech you could imagine and the blind spot detectors are genuinely very useful. Incredibly agile despite all the groans about a 19" front wheel..... but like all Ducatis it gets hot very quick and fuel consumption is poor. That said, not sure it's a tourer more an upright bike for rich people who can't cope with a sports bike anymore - like me bar the rich bit !

Great review! Bought mine last September. Have done 900 miles before winter kicked in..Luv it! At 6'2'' have the seat in the high position and its really comfortable. Screen in low position which is perfect. I need to take mine back to the dealer for the latest software update, it does two things: It changes the heated grips switching to all through the button on the righthand switchgear, and there is an auto low height function adjust through the rear shock preload for when you are in traffic and need your feet flat on the floor. Low speed balance in my opinion is as good as the GS. I tested both the GS and Multi V4 before my purchase, the GS is a great bike but for me it was the Multi V4 for the engaging engine, the looks, and to a certain extent the exclusivity.

I bought the V4S in livery colours and opted for spoked wheels. Collected mine in October 2021 and up to now Feb 22 I haven’t rode it apart from the 10 miles from the dealer to my Garage. I have my first trip in May to the NW200 for a week can’t wait. I also own a Husqvarna 701 Enduro that I will be taking the IOM 22. It’s a great bike. Updates & options: 1. Ducati just released update, now allows all adj from the htd grip button only (going right then left was annoying) 2. Ducati parts has touring windshield, aftermarket not needed, I’m 6’1” & do not have any problem w/ stock,l Biggest diff between choosing GS: if you’re going to “really adv”, GS is better suited off-road. If your riding street only as sports tourer, GS isn’t even close to this bike at the light, in the canyon, V4 Performance will rip you back at 100MPH if you turn off WC & TC, it’s a beast at 10K Biggest legit complaint, fuel mileage for sport tourer or ADV is not great

Maybe worth mentioning that it does not have desmodromic valve timing system, but regular valve springs. Maybe a bad thing for Ducati purists, but the service intervals are enormous, especially the valve timing service.

Another good video in a long string of good videos. This bike is interesting for me. It’s one I would consider buying, although I sometimes use my GSA for off road trails and fire roads. I agree that this MS is not something I would take to some of these places. You mentioned that you would have this over a GS. I hope you revisit this when you get your first ride on a R1300GS next year. The MS has an advantage by being 8 years more modern than the current GS. Times are good when so many great bikes are available.

Its all the bike you need, I absolutely loved my multi, gone now but never say never. Can't believe your contemplating getting one over the GS. Greetings from Down Under! Love your vlogs. Think I’ve seen most of your stuff but never commented. These bikes cost the same as a decent SUV in Oz. Not sure that any marriage could survive such a purchase unless you are one of the blessed top 5% of earners. For that amount of money, the experience should be one of bliss and the most fun you can have with clothes on. Can’t find neutral? Screen doesn’t do the job? Fiddley controls? No room for the phone? Would not actually take it off-road? Yes, it’s beautiful, but there are so many ways it underachieves. If I wanted to swoon every time I opened the throttle (just prior to losing my licence, speaking from experience due to a Fireblade ), I would buy a Streetfighter V4S or 1290 Super Duke. I’m thinking the V2 Multistrada might be a sweeter prospect in the real world, so long as it can do gravel roads and the odd smooth dirt track. Personally, I’m probably going for a Tiger 900 GT Pro next, as I haven’t seen anything that comes close to bang-for-your-buck that’s offered.

Have owned 2 1200S Multis and loved both of them, however didnt fancy owning out of warranty! Bought a GS and have enjoyed it. Am in the mood for a change again and my Ducati dealer, who is also a Suzuki dealer, keeps offering me a test ride on the V4. With 4 year warranty, long service and valve intervals, its probably all the bike you'd ever need, however given the cost, im deliberately not test riding it because i know exactly what'll happen! lol. With my GS just out of warranty, Im swapping for a New Suzuki S1000GT with 3 years warranty, hoping its the right decision rather than opting just to pay £40 a month for the BMW extended warranty. Ive never kept a bike 1 year let alone 3, i keep hunting for that keeper!

Comprehensive first review. Will be interesting how the V2S compares for that low down power. Looking forward to you doing a Tiger 1200 review to see how it compares to the Multistrada V4S. They sound like they’ll be great bikes, but I noticed that the seat heights are tall, which can be a big challenge for my 30” inside leg, especially with that extra bulk and weight. I’m just switching to a 900 Rally Pro after my Tenere 700 and even though it’s a taller seat, I can get a foot down no problem as well as it’s centre of gravity being much lower. Hopefully the 1200 will be similar.

Nice bike Andy, but you can come unstuck fiddling with the electronics on the move. They can be a distraction when you should be concentrating on the road ahead. The other drawback is the price, it’s eye watering. My other concern is Ducati electronics, my new bike took two years to sort out with key fob faulty, fuel sender unit, switch on side stand, HT lead’s arcing. Loved the bike but hated all the faults on an expensive bike, purchased the bike new in 2014, by 2017 all faults sorted, sold it Dec 2018

@@TheMissendenFlyer Simply reliability. It rode great (if a little lumpy low down) Had amazing reviews from all the journalists at the time. Had all the latest tech. Break downs including brake failure and 7 warranty returns soon demish your love of a motorcycle. I already have a high dollar touring motorcycle in the Goldwing. Like you, I am not with the idea of tech laden bikes if I have a choice of something less complicated. And, like others have stated, I prefer shaft drive. I am currently thinking about something simpler, less expensive for my off-road riding so I am not stuck with an enormous repair bill if I drop it. Enjoy your time with the Ducati. I am sure it is a hoot ride.

As a long time Honda V4 owner - an engine Honda has quietly retired rather than get through Euro4/5, I’m slightly baffled by this move from Ducati. The V4 just gulps petrol, really comes alive over 6K rpm (when you are already at illegal speeds) and whilst smoother than the equivalent V2, doesn’t really work as an adventure bike engine. You noted the lack of real grunt down low. It’s why so many ADV bikes are a twin cylinder affair. Also odd to add a 19” front wheel at the same time as a new, even racier engine. It’s not going off-road any more than a Panigale. A screen that needs replacing from the showroom and a phone cubbyhole too small for the latest large phone models is just the icing on the cake. But the real killer is the price - sure, there are extra packs on the test bike that hike the total cost but well over £20K for what will be a consumer toy puts it far out of the reach of most riders. Even it’s baby brother, the V2, is now over £15K in similar trim. Unsustainable.
