"The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW," says Harald Krueger, chair of the BMW board of management.
"The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class."

This next-generation 8 concept will be more modestly cylindered than BMW’s first: There will be an 840i with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and an 850i powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8-though even the six, which makes up to 335 horsepower in today’s BMWs, will surpass the output of the original 850i’s 12-cylinder. This has to be one of the best BMW’s I have ever seen. Good design. Usually their designs are not as nice as this one is. Great interior too. Love how you open the car door. Plus the front grille design is nice too. Wow!

Not a huge BMW fan, but this has excellent styling. Really like the indented side panels. Rear - - would look weird with standard issue license plate.

This vehicle is so fabulous! I love my BMW but when I had an opportunity to see this car up close and personal and was ready for it! It's a mighty fine ride, PERFECT! BTW, you can have it in a hard top convertible. 100K

I’m not super knowledgeable on how concept cars make it to the market, so can anyone explain to me WHY this gets redesigned? Probably the best looking bmw from recent years and that seems to be the common consensus, I’m sure it would sell well.

Because concept cars aren't functional. They're just designed to be pretty, but none of the elements on the car necessarily work, aerodynamics would be bad, efficiency would be bad, it would be unrefined, etc. Real cars are different to concept cars because they actually have to work, not just look good, and often what looks good doesn't work.
