I just bought my first mandolin from these guys yesterday. So helpful and patient! I, for one, want to say "Thank You" for putting these videos out. They have helped me a lot so far and probably will for a good while to come. As far as price comments: You get what you can afford at the time. Just because you can't afford it now doesn't mean you have a reason for trashing the price. Everybody knows R&D, manufacturing, distribution and labor is not cheap. If you want one of these and can afford it; more power to you! If you don't like the aesthetics, tone or anything else that is subjective, just say you don't and move on.

Just received an email from Gibson this morning. They haven't made any banjos since the flood in 2010. Fortunately, I have an Earl Scruggs model. I regret selling an RB-250 about 10 years ago. Had 2 banjos and needed the money.

I remember the days these F-5 and F-5L were made in Belgrade, MT. Yeah, then they moved the shop to Nashville. They were made right next to the Flatiron line. The Flatiron line went to China. The Gibson line stayed in Nashville. God, they had problems, till they got rid of Henry. I have a decent Flatiron A-5 from my days in the shop. Best job I ever had, til problems crept in.

At the moment, as many that are ordered. The F-5G is just a new standard model from Gibson, it should not be limited. That said, they are still expected to sell very fast & Gibson already has back orders.

These are not intro level instruments. They are not built for beginners. They are not made for "economy value". They are professional level instruments, made for professional level players, and are priced as such. In my opinion they are worth every penny they cost, but obviously they are not for everybody. If you want a $600 mandolin, there are a lot of good options out there, but they are not going to be in this class of mandolin. Do not insult these fine instrument makers by complaining about the price. There's a reason they cost 10x that of your Eastman and Kentucky mandos.

It's basically describing the look of the grain in the Maple on the back. Factor in 200+ hour build time for custom mando. It’s not a bad price. Someone can actually make a living building instruments. Buy USA

I think the F5g makes a bunch of sense and the value equation seems balanced. The reissue model for $20k seems like an egregious price? The value equation is WAY off for that model. Who is this model for? Wealthy collectors, pro bluegrass players with no budget? I think this model would be a huge success for $9k. Still expensive but within the reach of of regular musicians.

You get far more bang for your buck by going with an Eastman. Gibson is so overpriced it's pathetic. I have a Collings with an Adirondack top and it barks but I will never pay that kind of money again. I played a 500 series Eastman the other day and it matched my Collings on everything except extreme lows. I started out with a Gibson and traded it for the Collings because the radius neck is just so much easier to play. I would never go back to a flat fret board.

@@zachariahmagallan5738 depends on what you're looking for and what features you're looking for honestly. Fender makes solid mandolins for less than $500 and Washburn mandolins sound excellent at the same price point.

@@zachariahmagallan5738 No, he cannot. Mandolins, especially at the professional level, are pricey for most players. He has no problem with any other manufacturer asking $8-$12k for their instruments, but not Gibson. He cannot believe they have the audacity to charge $6k, even though they have been building some of the best instruments in the world for over 100 years, and they are THE most iconic mandolin maker of all time.. $6k is not that much for a very high quality mandolin. Anyone who knows what they are talking about, mostly professionals, will raise their eyebrows in confusion at the above comment. SMH…

That being said, the price for the Custom F-5G with these extra specs was $6999 in 2022, so $1000 drop in price when we expected Gibson to raise the price since it had been two years since they took an order.

I'm with you. I'm a Gretsch guy. . .and I'm about to pull the trigger on either a new 6120 or a 53 Duo Jet. In either case, they are about half the price of this latest Gibson offering. I mean, I'm sure it's nice but. . .

So $400 cheaper than the player F5 was and no neck or headstock binding? No body binding on the back? They’re overpriced, ugly & they’re selling people mandolins for retarded prices. They lost me & I Was looking. No more. I’ll stick to my KM1050

I’m not knocking the manufacturing process or the outcome but these new F5 mandolins have less individual attention and less hand made labor in favor of more CNC, more hands in the process and, hopefully, a lower manufacturing cost. Gibson is feeling the loss of market share from not only the Asian made Northfield, Eastman, Kentucky, etc., lines but also the custom, high end US makers like Red Diamond, Heiden, Ellis, Collings, Pava, etc., For my money, nothing sounds like a Gibson. I hope that never changes.
