They need a sequel to Journey into Inner Space...Perhaps Journey into Quantum Space? It could even go through an abbreviated version of the original before continuing the shrinking all the way down to Planck size.

Right you kind need music with seeing bunch of stars and ships.

Music was playing on the ride, if you wear headphones, you can hear it.

Did this 3 times Monday and could hear the music great every time.

That first building he went into wasn't always some queue for Space Mtn, that area use to be a two story Arcade but that was long ago :(

Does the queue ever get FULL? It would take you all day to get on the ride!!

5 1/2 minutes (with no one in front of you!) just to get to the boarding area...the norm is wall to wall people filling all the roped off switch back lanes. Ahh, the happiest place on Earth!!!

I seem to recall the days when there was no roofing over some of the outdoor line, only a few places, but seems they've added a few, which is nice, considering the sunny days, it can be brutal at times, waiting out there, if the lines were longer than normal. And yes, they DID get long at some points, but not so much it seems nowadays. But you have to know, that I'm a 50 year old lady, I remember things way back. Showing my age, but still a kid at heart, from the Disney magic.

@@Gonk Ahh the Starcade. That was how I knew I was a lucky/spoiled Southern Cali kid with an annual pass... when I could go to Disneyland to play Street Fighter and pinball games. LOL. I do miss it though!

@@MrShugarcube I already know how the stars work on Space Mountain and how they’re projected by those unseen disco balls but thank you for that fun fact. Besides, wouldn’t the out of this world dark ride itself be much more attractive and fun for it’s original overlay if Disney adds different celestial object projections minus black holes while the stars and the rotating spiral galaxy are still there? (Like planets, comets, nebulae, asteroids, meteoroids, and even the moon! Because that’s what I’m thinking and wishing since I think that during the ride’s original overlay, the stars themselves are starting to get boring each time I watch Anaheim’s regular Space Mountain videos or ride on the pitch black attraction itself. Even though they’re much lifelike as well as shiny and cool like the usual real stars up in the night sky, especially since they’re the most dominant celestial objects in the universe. But still, just like they added Star Wars projections and the lasers for it’s Hyperspace overlay, I want them do the same with it’s original overlay like what I just said about my wish of it

It still is Space mountain, but for one month a year, in honor of may the 4th, they add the star wars music and effects. But the majority of the year its still the same space mountain in california and florida

this is disneyland not disney world they are a little different

change is inevitable but alas I miss alot of the classic elements. the view from the line que into the ride was always a treat and in Florida when you boarded the ride you looked up and saw the ride from the bottom up! THAT WAS COOL!

Used to go to Disneyland five times a year until like 18 or so years ago. Space Mountain always had like 2+ hour lines and all that queue space was actually needed.

@@keybladebanditjing Oh it’s still needed. But when the park opens this is what happens. I have even done this walk myself multiple times. I just didn’t realize it took over 5 minutes to do!!

this is a seasonal overlay they do to celebrate star wars surrounding star wars day (may 4th) and for the star wars nights at disneyland. It's temporary and will revert back soon, so no worry! I do agree on needing more unique rides rather than relying on IP though.

The video makes it looks so much better than it actually is lol, it looks pretty bad irl

Exactly, Disney no longer innovates, and is so lazy with nothing but projections on every ride now. I won't even ride the Galaxy's Edge rides, its just watching a video while moving now.

The appeal of Space Mountain was that it was pitch black in there. This is so bright.

@@jon-kl9mk It used to be an escalator in front of the mountain, now it is a ramp around the back.

No sudden drops, lots of twists and turns mostly. Honestly it’s a great starter and I would definitely give it a try, I love this ride so much. Although after visiting hyperspace mountain in Disney Paris (that one has loops, this one doesn’t) I don’t know which one is better!!!

@@Lemoncoder103 Ok thank you. I went to Disneyworld last year and did Cosmic Rewind and Slinky Dog ride. Had my eyes closed the whole ride in Cosmic Rewind and almost passed out because of how intense it was. Slinky Dog was decent not so bad tho.

I’m afraid of roller coasters too. Personally, the only rides that I have to be paid an obscene amount of money to go on are guardians of the galaxy and incredi-coaster. I’ve only done splash Mountain once in my entire life and I’m fine never going on it again. All the other rides are manageable or not as scary as they might seem. Disney is a boatload of fun. I hope you enjoy your time there.

Space Mountain is pretty tame if you don’t mind speed but from your other comment I think this one would be much more tame compared the the rides you previously rode. If you’re going to disneyland you’d be able to most rides without worrying about anything crazy like a major drop, sudden launches, or just anything crazy

@@Tommy-hl2wz Ok thanks I'm still debating on whether to ride incredicoaster, I read that if you ride in the front it's less intense and less rough than riding in the back for that ride. I wanted to ride the matterhorn Bobsled but that's closed until June which sucks.

Considering Star Tours was around before Galaxies Edge was even an idea... OTOH, I don't know if they started doing this overlay before or after GE.

This is just plain wrong, both have a place in the park, and rise is a stellar ride

The queue was probably a lot fuller when people could afford the insane prices. Not to mention the Florida cars being single-wide rather than double...granted, it's been a few decades since I rode SM. (The time I went to the park, Horizons, the *good* version of Journey into Imagination, and Living Seas were still in Epcot...)

The noise is coming from the material that the load wheels on the rockets are made of (not sure what material they are using now) heats up from the friction when the rockets are in motion causing that rumbling sound, this material makes the ride slower. Back in the days when i was a machinist for Space Mountain we were using nylon wheels.

It seems to have started over the pandemic, its gotten worse since.

But the ride is so much fun!
