The Torres EV-X, the name of which derives from a combination of ‘electric vehicle’ and ‘extreme’, is powered by a 73.4kWh battery and a front-mounted 201bhp electric motor.
The Torres EVX is not the first or only electric car sold by KG Mobility. That title goes to Korando e-Motion designed by the SsangYong team. The Torres EVX though is a brand new vehicle based on a brand new platform and as such represents a new, fresh start for the company.
The model looks different from its ICE-powered counterpart thanks to the redesigned face which represents an evolution of the “Powered by Toughness” design language that is specific to EVs.
On the outside, the EVX has a completely different look from its combustion equivalent, with a filled-in bumper and an integrated set of LED DRLs to replicate the look of a slotted grille in reference to the earlier-generation SsangYong Korando models from where it descends. These are matched by a set of LED headlights and LED fog lights
Square lines end in upright LED fittings at the rear and a bump on the tailgate to reference where a full-size spare might once have been. Meanwhile, the EVX swaps out the standard wheels for a more sleek set of aerodynamic alloys.
Inside the EVX features a “panoramic display” consisting of two large widescreens for the digital instruments and multimedia panel, while a standard shift-lever has been swapped for a small shift-by-wire toggle. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections are available via cable.
A floating centre console design frees up storage space in the cabin, while the Torres makes use of the brand’s latest multi-function steering wheel design. In the rear, the EVX features integrated window shades, tablet holders in the backs of the front seats, and heated seating is standard in all but the centre rear position.
The Torres EVX measures in at 4715mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1725mm tall. This is roughly the same size as the Mitsubishi Outlander.
With the second row of seats upright the Torres EVX has 839L of boot capacity. This expands to 1662L with the second row of seats folded down.
There are a total of seven exterior paint colours available, with some of them able to be optioned with a black-painted roof. There are also two interior colour combinations too.
The electric powertrain in the SsangYong Torres EVX uses a 73.4kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a 204PS electric motor mounted at the front.
the KG Mobility Torres EVX moving for up to 500 kilometers on a full charge, in the estimated WLTP cycle. However, tests conducted by South Korea’s government suggest a range of around 420 km.
