I love it. Tho I have made a living with big HP push rod motors for decades I always appreciate when someone puts forth the effort to bring something different to market. I had the pleasure of running a big block Chevy based 4 valve 4 cam motor (McGee) in the late 80s early 90s. Kenny Bernstein tested his top fuel dragster with one around the same time with limited success. But it was sure fun to watch :)

There are no updates because the benefit of a 4-valve head over a 2-valve isn't big enough to justify the added weight, cost, and size. With a 4.125" bore, you should be able to get 44mm intake valves. When you account for the valve seats, you should expect 500 CFM. LS7 heads flow 320 cfm. A 427 will need to rev to (500/320) the 6200 RPM peak from the factory LS7, or 9800 RPM. Stress is proportionate to the square of the speed, so it more than doubles the stress rotating parts. A 2-valve head will need valves 1.414 times the size of a 4-valve head. The 5.2 liter VooDoo heads flow similar to LS7 heads. A 5.2 will need to spin to (7/5.2) the speed of the LS7's 6200, or, 8300 RPM. A 4.56" bore and a 4.375" stroke is 9.4 liters. If you do the math for 500 CFM on a 9.4, that's 7200 RPM. If you tune the cylinder breathing properties, you can go 10% slower and make the same power, for 6500 RPM. That's exactly why Tom is pushing the alien intake. Mark my words, he's eventually gonna make composite airboxes like FAST does with the LSXRT, and he'll get big blocks that run like LS engines.

If the system was so damn good, a high horsepower guy like Tom Nelson would have adopted it. Interestingly, it's been shelved for 6 years. Maybe Steve Morris or Sonny Leonard would have done it. All of Tom's videos would have had ARAO heads. Do you have any of your own calculations, so we can compare them? That would qualify as scientific peer review. 4-valve technology is great for smaller engines, because the entire package is lighter, even if it makes less power. A 4-valve head for a 4.6" bore is going to be gargantuan. Even if you did want more RPM, a small stroke on a 4.6" bore with 47mm valves will spin beyond Formula 1 levels. A 4-valve head out-flows a 2-valve head by 20%. A 2-valve head weighs 30% less. The 2-valve heads end up having a better power to weight ratio.

I used to work for Chet Herbert, he built a 4 valve DOHC 500in caddy bore center cyl. head/block combo. we had an entire room full of billet heads ready to be raced, NHRA outlawed them before we even finished the R&D.... he was also building a hemispherical SBC head when he got sick. not sure about what became of it all. I'm thinking heads were developed by another shop? If they patented their work and wound up in court for some reason... perhaps they guy is refusing to authorize building on his design as royalties would just get stolen by the lawyers? I don't really know. Sad, but that's commiefornia - State of Emergency, Land of Disclaimers. [They have too many lawyers]. Here's a precurser design using a complex pushrod/rocker arm setup that gives a hint of where this block could have gone: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bL51m5SgyK2Yl4U.html

Tom I like this whole engine concept! It certainly does sound like a new generation of hot-rodding. I do however think that you should mimic the LSX design and have a 6 bolts per cylinder setup on the top end since you are cramming all that boost in there. Just a little thought. I know you are about building horsepower and especially building it reliably.

Easily 50 grand or more for one of these engines alone with the mirror image turbos / octane on demand with all the forged/billet custom parts and block itself and any fabrication work for installation into an engine bay, that's not including a clutch/converter and transmission that will hold up, plus suspension/brakes/tires and chassis upgrades for such a serious engineering system. I bet everyone at NRE is a multi-millionare. This is world-class innovation right here.

It is a nice block for a 2 stroke project. This is just what i need so i can cut window ports on the inner and out sides of each cylinder. This is where i can mount a flange to a manifold that goes to a blower for scavenging. I can get a summit racing 572 block as it has lots of room for ports.

i am biased, i drive a 2010 camaro ss. my father drives a hemi ram pickup. we had barracudas, chargers, and roadrunners my whole life. maybe im just nostalgic, but i still believe in the tried and true pushrod v8. it still to this day gives you the best versatility from mild to wild. and we are talking performance, not economy? anyone that buys a muscle car is not looking for high fuel economy, thats not what its about. its that feeling of power, that angry violent acceleration, THAT BADASSNESS!

@Veikra Yeah, I looked at a dyno chart and did calculations. I thought you used peak torque in the equation but you use the torque at that rpm. So, it will be interesting to see what kind of peak torque this engine produces then. I would like to see a 2500hp SBC and the 2500hp Revolution dynos plotted together, both torque and horsepower. You'd have to stretch the SBC graph to get a more accurate comparison though.

We having been following this design for sometime, like what we have seen so far but seen no further info. and wondering which heads you are planning to use... billet design from scratch or existing OEM with some mods. We really like the 5.7 Toyota 4-valve heads as they can be made to flow very well with good thermal capability plus suitable for good lift and already have VVT capability with OEM parts. Your block design would go well with these (bolts, cooling and oil pattern would need to be aligned etc). Also why didn't you select H-Beam forged steel rods on this short block (just curious).

The swept volume of the ports, different port shape 2 valves in the inlet and the exhaust all contribute to better breathing and if coupled with tuned interference header's you WILL make less torque but more outright HP. depending on the application it was built for.
