The All-New 2025 Toyota 4Runner is to be unveiled today! That's exciting for some, but unfortunate for others. In this video I want to take a less "hype-man" approach, and really showcase the primary reasons one would buy the current 2024 (5th gen) Toyota 4Runner instead of waiting for the new 2025. I highlight the 5 Reasons to buy a 2024 while showcasing a 2024 4Runner TRD Off Road right next to a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road (both in Underground grey). Bottom line is, people buy Toyotas because of Reliability, Simplicity and Affordability. Each factoring into their amazing resale values.
The 5 Reasons I talk through in this video include:
1. Powertrain
2. Price
3. Simplicity
4. Aging Well
5. Resale of the 5th Gen moving forward
Let me know your honest thoughts. Do you think the last of the tried and true 5th gen is a wise purchase compared to the all-new 4 cylinder 2025? Newer isn't always better. Are you planning to buy a 2024 while you still can or will you wait for the 2025 to hit lots? Thank you for watching as always! If you found any value in this video, please consider Liking and Subscribing, your support means a lot. Thank you!
-Stay Untamed...

The new models like the Land Cruiser etc are awesome looking. Like anything over time we gravitate towards the newest and best things. The new models will have the best fuel consumption, newest technology, newest safety features and as usual great resell values. Plus the new interiors and comfort seem to be a notch above all the prior years ergonomically. With that being said the last 10 years are all great as well and worth taking care of and keeping.

@@sammyjammy6647 i think its more of a shift in expectations now. If toyota revamps that whole 4x4 line to be turbo'd and hybrid then getting 300k miles wont be the new normal or expectation, but 200k or less. Toyota is going to be doing alot of mind shifting with their existing customers here shortly.

Do you know if the 4Runner is able to slide a sheet of drywall past the roll-down rear window? I need a vehicle with some limited hauling capability. Considered the 3rd gen Tacoma but it's not a good fit for me because I'm 6'4". The 4th gen would probably fit me better but I'm not interested in being the first adopter of a new generation Tacoma. If the 4Runner can handle a full sized sheet of drywall, I might go with it. If it's can't, the alternative might be a 2021 Tundra V8, but that's a lot of truck for a daily driver. Your opinion is appreciated.

It's not realistic to ask anybody to buy a new 2024 4Runner and put it in storage, but if I had the money, lol. They will just hold their value and most likely go up in value. Can you imagine, an old man telling his grandson or daughter, that hear the stories of the last great 4Runner, for decades, was way back in 2024, and you tell them, "I've been keeping one in storage for you'.

7:00 all they had to do was get rid of that clock, move the AC vents up higher, then extend the 8 inch screen horizontally on each side so the screen could be 11-12 inches. Then move the knobs elsewhere. You dont need the track and seek buttons. Remove all that. The knobs for volume and changing the radio could be farther left. If they wanted to keep the infotainment buttons, adding them above and below the sceen while removing the Siruius XM branded plate would work as well. Alot they could have done instead of just plopping in a huge tablet!

I'm not convinced made in Mexico means worse quality than made in the US. I'm old enough to remember when nobody wanted a car made in the US back because the quality was so bad. The newest version of the Tundra is made in the US and they seem to be having some quality problems with those trucks. I think only time will tell but in my opinion its the company and a culture of quality that will always make a made in Mexico Toyota of higher quality than say a made in the US Chrysler.

This os going to be my 4runner for years to come 😏. I think the new 6th Gen looks good buy Im going to stick to proven reliability until the new 6th Gen probes me otherwise 😅.

Great analysis and I 100% agree. Also, (and I'm not a Nissan fan) interesting to note that for 2024, Nissan kept their V6 and V8 truck engines (no 4cylinder or 6 cylinder turbos); not sure what they'll do for 2025.

Just looking at that engine bay is a huge fat hells no. One looks like a car engine, the other looks like a birds nest I ripped off a tree and stomped it. I can't imagine the ass pain to get in there and change a spark plug or what happens when one or two of those hoses clamps from the three million that are in there dry rots or goes bad. I will have no pity for all these owners bitching on the forums about break downs and their truck at the dealer with their extra couple hp and 30 speed transmissions. Not me, love my dinosaur.

Those idiots at Toyota had something so good with the 5th generation 4Runner for 15 years and how they screwed it up with 4 cylinder Turbo and much worst which is a hybrid. Absolute junk and be prepared to visit your stealership more often with high cost of repair and much more less forgiving vehicle. What is your take on just leasing a new 2025 4runner for 3 years? I have a white 2023 4runner SR5 with an Eibach Stage 2R 3" lift with rear Eibach reservoir shocks and bronze Method bead grip wheels. Im 42 years old and have lost a lot of loved ones in the past few years. I love vehicles and want to experience as many as I can in this short life. I've been leaning towards selling my 2023 4runner to lease the new 6th Gen 4runner for 3 years, then try something else. Im really torn but that itch to try something new is pretty strong lol!

I'm on the fence as to what Toyota is doing to its best vehicles. A 4 cylinder turbo is cool n everything but not in an off road truck. I have owned several tacomas with the 4L, one third gen taco with the 3.5L. However I think that this switch to a 4 cylinder turbo with an outrageous price tag for a base model is a mistake. I'm keeping my 2021 off road 4runner until Toyota comes back to its senses. Oh and make a crew cab tundra with a 4x4 with a locker and a V8 for under 60K dollars and you can get me back Toyota.

This video is spot on, I have been preaching the same things you talk about in this video. I have had many cars over the years from naturally asperated race car engines and some all turbo charged up and even some with nitrous. I can tell all of you, that once you add a turbo to any gasoline engine you start putting added stress on the internal parts, especially the bearings, now add thousands of pounds of towing with it and/or loading the vehicle up with more than 200lbs and your fuel economy turns to crap no matter what you do. I have yet to hear of anyone who got so much more fuel economy with these turbo charged trucks and/or SUV's. 1 to 3 more miles per gallon is nothing to even brag about, especially when it "poof" disappears once you add any weight to it. I will be trading my 2016 4Runner Premium 2WD with only 63K miles on it for a 2024 4Runner Limited or maybe and it is a big maybe the TRD PRO, I do not want full time 4WD though, if I can't find either that I want, then I will unfortunately have to turn to the Lexus GX550 with the better twin turbo 6cyl, at least that won't have to work as hard as the 4cyl turbo and will give me the reliability I expect from the Toyota/Lexus brand.

I don’t have many worries about the 2.4l turbo for the simple reason that I had turbo Cruze that lasted me (before I sold it so it may still be out there) 10 yrs 170k miles original engine and transmission and they were supposedly very unreliable. Admittedly is a little bit of an apples and oranges due to one being unibody and the other one body on frame… I guess we’ll find out.

I couldn't agree more. The "new" 6th Gen 4Runner is a 4th Gen Tacoma with a cap/hatch. It's basically there for those who want a Tacoma but not a pickup truck. They clearly didn't want to spend time and money to make a new vehicle that would compete with the new Land Cruiser, so they made this Frankenstein for 2025. This will only help keep the value of the current 5th Gen.

Well, I'm 69 yrs old and my "off-roading" days are behind me. Two weeks ago I bought a 2023 4Runner SR5 Premium with 16k on it. I figure this will probably be my last vehicle. I rather have a torqued up 6 cylinder with a hybrid motor that takes away load making it more fuel efficient. I think the end result will be the same but the 6 cylinder motor would be taking less stress compared to the 4 banger that is taking in high compression.

I’ll be curious to see how the new generation goes, but I’m not too optimistic. Heck, I really wanted the current Tundra for my next truck. But I think I’ll be looking at the F150. It seems like Toyota is dropping the ball on their truck lineup. The Tacoma back seat is smaller than the previous generation and same goes for the Tundra. That’s just one point.
