For the second day, there have been US-led attacks on the Houthi militia in Yemen. US officials say the new targets posed a threat to shipping in the Red Sea, which has been disrupted by Houthi attacks in recent weeks. Houthi leaders vowed retaliation following the first wave of air strikes.

Such dim questions from the interviewer. Houthi missiles require a guidance system to hit their targets. Part of that guidance is provided for by ground-based radar. They also require missiles. And they require control systems. All three were targeted by US/UK air strikes. The result of these actions will mean an immediate de-escalation of hostilities by the Houthis.

Just a quick reminder of how we got here. (Updated) The Houthis declare they are going to strike Israel directly - and end up launching missiles into Jordan by mistake The Houthis start attacking cargo ships because they realized they couldn't hit a target as far away as Israel - And their boats got sunk by helicopters The Houthis tried to attack US & UK warships in the Red Sea and despite missing every shot hailed it as a great victory - until last night when they got the response by competent armed forces that can actually hit their target. The Houthis proclaim they will make the US & UK pay - by launching a single missile... that missed... again. The US also launches a single strike - which hits and destroys another radar installation

This is by far the most unprofessional interview that i ever saw on DW. The anchor should never be allowed to get close to anything that has to do with journalism. Just sad to see DW so low. The anchor and the so call Yemen expert just focused on telling us that US and UK were wrong in responding to Houthi aggression and it seems that both are of the opinion that the entire world would just give in and accept that Suez route is no longer available and just let their economies take the hit.

Some people think that because Saudi Arabia and the UAE have a few squadrons of F15's and are rich that there bombing campaigns compare to what a coalition of countries with much more advanced, more powerful or at least comparable militaries to SA and UAE can do. How did the 4th most powerful military (Iraq) fair at military escalation when it invaded Kuwait and part of Saudi Arabia last time and faced off a coalition of 42 countries?

Phil seems to have more moments recently, that undermines his credibility as a journalist on DW asking questions. It's not the first time it happens and I'm not sure, if that's good for DW to get him on the program for sensible subjects like these acts of aggression. The general problem seems to be, that Phil not only fails to ask the precise questions necessary to get the information he wants, but also can't keep the emotion under control. If at least the latter was fixed, less people would be upset of this behavior.

I disagree with the girl that says the strikes help the houthis. It may help them in their corner of the world but in the long run this will help pull Iran's focus and weapons stocks. Will also degrade their capabilities on the ground. I don't think the developed countries care much about the Houthi's' popularity, to include many countries in the mid east. I think she is a little over-confident and overly-pleased in the capabilities of an Iranian proxy.

I'll point out that the Palestinians are very popular in the region. So much so that just about every neighbor of Israel joined them in 3 wars. They still lost, Israel still stands, and they've all been complaining about their treatment ever since. Popularity in the middle east doesn't amount to much in the face of actual violence. It should also be noted that the Shia's were very fond of the prophet's family to the point they broke away from the Sunnis but they didn't do squat to help them against Abu Sufyan's family's army and they were wiped out. Real reliable friends, these Iranians.

The coalition is not “ratcheting things up, rather than calming things down”. Pull your head out! The aggression was the attack on shipping, the hostage taking of which they hold 25 people today (why didn’t you mention the taking of innocent workers on the vessels they have been pirated?). I would also mention the theft of property in the shipping and contents, the Yemenis did not own either the vessels or contents and they certainly do not own the people own those ships that they have taken hostage, but by all means, blame the RESPONCE to terror. This is not normal or acceptable behavior and the way you fight piracy and terrorism is through a RESPONSE and this includes military attacks. Sometimes this channel can be so blinded in a “woke” effort to appear fair? But in the end you only expose yourself to be lacking reason or common sense.
